Trim names…

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
The Silverado screen is canted. Which I prefer the Scout screen being flat against the dash. I also like that the dash slightly creeps over the screen too, instead of the screen just ending in the air.

The Reaper, Scythe, Harrow, Baler, Thresher, Swather. I love all of those. That would definitely be the direction if it were solely my choice.
Nice ideas but Thresher might be an ill omen choice, given the lost submarine of that name.

You could be on your something there. Maybe a base camp but that implies base and camping Plateau? Gotta be a good mid level name somewhere in the mix

I think Base Camp has a decent chance. But it does imply a "base" vehicle, even though "base camp" doesn't have to be at the "base" of the mountain.

But, to be honest, I'm sure they have people working on this internally, and probably giggling at this thread when they see it.

So at least we've provided them with some levity on a Friday :D.

I suspect they get a chuckle everyday about one or more things we talk about. But still hoping some day they’ll post a pamphlet that notes all the ideas they took from us and integrated into the vehicles

What if Scout really leaned into its heritage?

Option 1: Leans into the Scout lifestyle —Adventure, the outdoors, and American craftsmanship.

Homestead – Everyday Scout. Simple, capable.
Outfitter – Adds more comfort, features, and options.
Ranch – Premium trim. Thinking fancier than King Ranch, Sahara, or Outer Banks.
Reaper – High-performance model Raptor etc.

Option 2 (if Scout leans much harder into Scout's IH heritage.

Homestead – The dependable foundation.
Outfitter – More capability, more equipment, and more comfort for longer trips.
Binder – Lux model.
Reaper – More power/attitude.

Either way, no boring trim names. Please.

I like these names but my hang up is the names are arbitrary other than Reaper which I think everyone associates with Grimm and max power rather than a farming tool. I think the names need to instantly convey a beginner/middle/top level, otherwise it’s just marketing tools. Even with the broncos, I like these park references models but it don’t mean anything and was arbitrary.
Maybe it’s locations based on geographical elevation.
A sea level name, a middle plains name, maybe black rock as lower “mountain” range then top level is tallest mountain peak in US that sounds good

Definitely cool, though Reaper, Scythe, and Harrow all sound kinda dark. They can’t all be black…

I think my thought process is more or less about telling Scout's story. International Harvester built equipment for farmers, ranchers, contractors, et al. The original Scout was a natural extension of that philosophy, a vehicle built for work first and adventure second.
That's why names like Homestead, Outfitter, Binder, and Reaper resonate with me. They're not just marketing terms; they're rooted in the brand's heritage.

Homestead - The people IH originally served.Homestead represents where it all begins. A homestead was built on self-reliance, practicality, and hard work. It fits the entry-level Scout because it's the dependable foundation, the vehicle that simply gets the job done.

Outfitter - The Scout's role as a vehicle that takes people farther. Once you've established the homestead, you need the equipment to go farther, carry more, and do bigger jobs. Outfitters historically supplied the gear, livestock, and provisions that made exploration, ranching, hunting, and long journeys possible. It's a natural fit for a trim with more capability, features, and comfort.

Binder -A wink to longtime IH enthusiasts. An IYKYK nod to IH's history. It is the nickname for IH trucks and Scouts, rooted in the company's grain binder machinery. It turns a piece of IH folklore into a premium badge.

Reaper - A tribute to the innovation that helped create the IH company. Reaper works on two levels. Most people hear an aggressive performance name. IH fans recognize it as a reference to Cyrus McCormick's mechanical reaper, the invention that ultimately led to International Harvester. It's a high-performance trim that also honors the company's origin story.

To me, that's stronger branding than generic trim names or letter combinations. The entire lineup tells a story, from building a Homestead, to being an Outfitter, to celebrating the Binder legacy, to culminating in the Reaper that pays tribute to the machine that started it all.

So...If anyone from Scout is lurking and thinks these names are worth borrowing, I'd gladly accept a discount on my Traveler as my consulting fee. 😂

Elevations per quick Google in South Carolina; Myrtle (lowest), Columbia (Middle of the state), Sassafras Mountain (High elevation)

In case this hasn’t been mentioned, but “Eagle” has to be some kind of option. Get it? Eagle Scout!
As an Eagle Scout, I usually think of Scouts of America (formerly BSA) whenever I think of Scout Motors. At some point Scout Motors should lean into that, would be a cool collab as Scouts embodies a lot of the thing Scout motors is pushing. Adventuring/Exploring etc
