Towing Behind Motorhome - Flat Towing

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

As a Motorhome owner and active traveler, the field of towable SUV and pickups is narrowing with every model year. The electric models of any brand are typically not towable. While this may seem to be a simple process of disconnecting power to the drive motors allowing free-wheel operation, apparently it gets more complicated than that. The ideal situation would be to generate recharge power to the batteries while being towed behind the motorhome. Arriving at the destination would yield a full charge or close to it. The key is to make the transition from "tow mode" to "drive mode" simple, easy to convert, and would not require removing, installing, or disconnecting any hardware. Electrical connectivity to activate brake, directional signals, and body lights from the motorhome is required. Currently JEEP is the only vehicle close to the SCOUT lineup that is towable without any modification. I urge you to seriously consider the "towable all 4 down" option on both SCOUT platforms. The motorhome market will love you for it.

Yes! PLEASE make the Terra flat or 4 wheel towable. I am not talking about regenerating while towing....just a true neutral. Of course they could charge at a campsite or off an RVs generator when parked or camping. This would really put a dent in the many jeeps and broncos being towed . There seems to be less and less flat towable vehicles.

Welcome to the community!

Flat towable was the MAIN reason I have a second Jeep. Sadly I have not used it for what I intended. I have used it to tow to the shop WAY to many times. Given it will be a minimal 2hr drive to a Scout repair center for me - flat towing would be convenient for the Scout if (in reality when) that is needed.

That said, in Texas, I can legally get away with towing my old (significantly lighter) Jeep without a brake controller. The Scout will be heavier (as are modern Jeeps), and it would no longer be an option to tow without an onboard brake controller. Plus, Texas is rather lax on the brake issue - I doubt it would be legal to tow in most states without a brake controller.
