The Garage (What did you work on today?)

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Wow! It appears there have been a vast number of accessories you can get now that weren't available when I had my dirt bike back in high school. About all I remember getting was a helmet, a few different sized sprockets and NGK spark plugs.

BTW...NICE BIKE!
I bet they didn’t sell thumpers that made 74hp back then either. This thing is stupid fast for a 330lb bike!

This one even has multiple traction control, throttle maps, and ABS options.

But yeah there are all kinds of niche gizmos and doo dads you can slap on them now. It can really get out of hand fast too lol

I really don’t like doing drywall, so I’m happy to say my office drywall is pretty much complete.

I can’t afford new windows right now, so I’ll be looking for used ones over the next six months with the hopes that I can get some to install next spring.
I need to also install the minisplit heat pump, but that’s another thing I don’t have time for right now and it’s getting cold so AC isn’t exactly a priority.

Over the next week or two I’ll install the floors, ceiling fan, and a door. I don’t think I’ll paint any time soon. Marred purple is just fine.

Had the sub panel for my battery backup installed yesterday. The panel on the left is the original, and the 14-50 plug underneath is the charging outlet for the battery. It’s a 240V/50A so I could repurpose it to an EVSE if I want. The panel on the right is the sub panel. The outlet below it is the power supply from the battery, it’s a 120V/50A connection.

All went well but when we switched over to battery power only one side in the panel was hot. The electrician and I looked mystified, it was the end of the day and he had to leave but would speak with his people and get back to me. I think I know what the issue is. After pondering for a bit it occurred to me that the 14-50 connection, which is usually a 240V set up, is only 120V… so only one leg in the cable is hot. I expect the electrician dutifully connected each leg of the incoming plug to the panel. But since only one is hot, only one side of the panel has power. IANAE but I’m pretty sure this is the issue.

A whole home battery with 50A/120V output is something I’ve never seen. What’s the battery brand and model?

I have a 3500w generator I use in power outages. It only does 120v x 30amps, and I use a TT-30 to LR14-30R adapter to plug it into the house through my transfer switch.

And when it does this, only one leg is hot, so I have to turn off all my 240v outlets. It sounds like you have the same thing going on.

Is it possible that your Bluetti is somehow counting all forms of its output towards its 5000w output, but it can’t actually produce 240v output on its own?

This inverter supplies 120V only. Two can be paired for 240V service.

How’s the bike riding going?
Well.... funny you should mention that. (cracks knuckles)

Been riding it a lot since the wife smashed her van and is driving my Lexus. Over 1,500 miles in less than a month. Already had the first service done.

BUT..

I was on my way into town Thursday night to pick up something from Academy, and was stuck behind a guy that was on his phone and driving slowly for a few miles. When we entered a passing zone, I passed him. This apparently was not okay with the driver.

He sped up and started riding my 🍑, flashing his brights, honking etc. When we got to the next intersection there was a car in front of me that was waiting to merge, and the guy behind me was still going nuts and honking.

So I put my kickstand down and walked up to his driver side window with my hands up next to my helmet like
1763406586552.png
and said "What the f**k are you doing bro?"

The driver looked at me, didnt say a word, cut the wheel towards me, punched the gas, and grazed my legs. He then knocked my new bike over, ran over the back of it, hopped a curb and took off. He almost collided with a few cars as he whipped into moving traffic. It happed so fast that I was just standing there for a minute trying to process the chain of events that just transpired.

When he ran over my bike the clutch lever was jammed so I couldn't get it to start or chase him down. Had to push the bike off the road and called the cops. While I waited for the police a guy came up behind me and said, "Are you okay buddy? I saw everything. I chased him down and got a picture of his license plate."

The Good Samaritan was a super sweet guy. While we waited for the police he told me he drives 30,000 miles a year and commutes almost 4 hours a day. He gave a witness statement and provide a description of the truck and the license plate number. Said to call him if he can do anything else to help. It was one of those inteteractions that restore your faith in humanity.

I eventually was able to fiddle with the clutch lever and got it going. Rode to Acadamey where I started to feel really sore. Legs and knees were burning. Left ankle and heel were very tender. The adrenaline had worn off at that point.

Got a call from the police within 45 minutes of leaving the scene. They said they had him detained, but the driver claimed they feared for their life and planned to find me later to fix my bike , and wanted to just exchange insurance information. I said I wanted to press charges so they thanked me for my time and hung up.

Called my insurance with his plate and they were able to look up the policy on the truck. Filed a claim through them. Haven't heard back yet from the adjuster. It is still ridable but has a lot of cosmetic damage and some broken parts. The local KTM dealership is writing up and estimate for me to provide to the insurance company.

I actually just got back from urgent care when I read your comment. Legs are still kind of sore so I wanted to get checked out. They think my lower back may be tweaked because of the burning sensation in my legs. Got a steroid shot in the bum and I will be contacting an attorney when I finish writing this.

So yeah... but up until that point it's been great. Got it resprung for my weight and its pretty much dialed now 👌

I was able to ride it on some enduro trails at the local offroad park with guys on KTM trail bikes and the owner of the local KTM dealership on his SX bike. They were all very impressed that I could throw that big bike around like I did and one said "You are my hero dude. I can't believe you're riding that thing like that." Really made my day.

The auxiliary tank kit from the Czech Republic was delivered today and I didn't have to pay any tariffs on it, which is also pretty cool. Need to install that and the cruise control system soon. Kind of buried at the moment with swapping the transmission in my Mom's Lexus GX460 so the bike stuff will need to wait until I get that squared away.

This sucks. Sorry man.

I mean, the good Samaritan part is good, but ugh, the rest. And very glad it didn't go worse.

I grew up riding dirt bikes (also minibikes, the little briggs/stratton powered steel framed gizmos with turf tamer tires, and a centrifugal clutch/1 brake). And my current hobby is mountain biking. While not a pro, I feel comfortable saying that I'm "pretty comfortable" on 2 wheels.

But this is the reason I haven't ever tried to ride on the road. I trust myself, but not other drivers. Its sad how many distracted/horrible drivers are out there :/.

Honestly the cops that were talking to me were right. Even though I was boxed in, I probably should have just jumped the curb and ridden to the nearest police station if he was still following me instead of getting off my bike and confronting the guy. Could have been way worse.

I was on my way to pick up a new gun, and things could have gone way differently if I was on my way back home. I will defend myself if I need to, but I also dont have any interest in taking someone's life over their ego trip.
