The Garage (What did you work on today?)

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Appreciate all the support from everyone. Just waiting to hear back from the attorney if they can represent me and what the police report says. Apparently road rage is considered an intentional act, so it means insurance won't cover it and the only option is a civil suit, which isn't worth it unless the defendant is wealthy.

Its 2024 Husqvarna 701 Enduro (White KTM 690 Enduro R) Its a hoot.

How do you like your 1290 SA?

160HP on a dirt bike is NUTS! Some guys have claimed they can wheelie at 100mph

The 1390 SAS is coming to the US next year. Very tempting.....
I love the 1290 - but I'm an old guy - "dirt" is a country lane for me, maybe a hill or two. Now Deal's Gap, different story, I'm cruising with all the BMW dudes and all the youngsters are passing us with the wheel up! Still a blast, plenty of turns...

The other day my 7yr old turned on what he thought was a timer on the Microwave...

It... was not the timer, it was instead the microwave. It was on for 10-15minutes at least before we caught it. And it was making noise, and smelling weird. I've heard stories of faulty microwaves catching fire, so we decided to toss it. New microwave day!

:/.

And of course the one we got last year (because the previous one died) was already out of production, so we had to figure out something else that would fit in the same trim spot. But we got it sorted.

Also, I started a project with the kids. This time, it was sewing.

Because of all of the soccer games that we've been at lately in the spring/fall, we've had increasing needs for both insulation, and water protection. Think about the scenario where you're at a soccer field for 3 hours, sitting in a camp chair and its raining and 45-55f, and you've got about the idea.

We have umbrellas, and jackets, and all those things of course, but we wanted something that could help cover the rest of us, and be warmer.

So we're making outdoor blankets. Totally waterproof/windproof on one side, insulated with Climashield Apex (3.6oz/sq yd variant, good down to ~40f or thereabouts), and then a more comfy fabric on the inside. Good as lap blankets, but also if you ever wanted to sit in "actually" wet ground, or other things like that.

We made one big one (~87in by ~57in), one medium one (~51in by 57in), and two "micro" blankets (~27in x 35in). The micro blankets are just big enough to cover your lap, and go to your feet. We added some shock cord, a cord lock, and a button to the top, so you can "put it on" sort of like a belt, so the thing doesn't fall off your lap (which is a problem if you're dealing with a larger blanket, and maybe... a 7yr old :P).

They weren't into it at first, but they started to get more excited about it when they saw how it worked, and that there could be an actual finished product :P.

Had the sub panel for my battery backup installed yesterday. The panel on the left is the original, and the 14-50 plug underneath is the charging outlet for the battery. It’s a 240V/50A so I could repurpose it to an EVSE if I want. The panel on the right is the sub panel. The outlet below it is the power supply from the battery, it’s a 120V/50A connection.

All went well but when we switched over to battery power only one side in the panel was hot. The electrician and I looked mystified, it was the end of the day and he had to leave but would speak with his people and get back to me. I think I know what the issue is. After pondering for a bit it occurred to me that the 14-50 connection, which is usually a 240V set up, is only 120V… so only one leg in the cable is hot. I expect the electrician dutifully connected each leg of the incoming plug to the panel. But since only one is hot, only one side of the panel has power. IANAE but I’m pretty sure this is the issue.

Pretty much as I suspected. Here’s the fix. Single hot wire from the plug (red) goes into the (bus?), two black wires come out and attach to the breaker.
