The Garage (What did you work on today?)

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
It was two trucks that passed, but its on a 2 lane road (1 lane each direction). A tacoma, and something full sized behind them. But neither were muddy/hauling anything. Plus, if anything did break off/fall out of/get thrown by the trucks, it would have to have taken quite the lateral burst of acceleration to bust a window like that.

I first thought it was a rock strike... but I'm pretty certain it was more likely a BB gun or something similar. But, it was loud (similar to rock strike on a windshield, but... like 8in from my head, and the whole thing turned white/frosty looking for a second).

I also thought maybe temperature differential. But, no HVAC was on, it was like 55f, and the vehicle was parked outside that night, so its not like it had a sudden temp change happening either.
the tempered glass screen on our wall oven shattered one night. Not being used at the time - oven was completely cold. We were in the living room and heard a huge pop and ran in to the kitchen to see it just completely shattered. Didn't fall out fortunately. No idea why it suddenly decided it was time to go.

When we called about replacement parts, it took a while to convince them I didn't mean the door. Unfortunately the glass over the screen isn't sold separately and the new controller would be about $800 so we just squint to see the temperature setting for now.

Month long update on the friends car. Life/work got in the way for coming back to the forum. To all those that kept saying it was a braking issue, you were partially correct. We ended up doing the struts, end links, pads and rotors. Everything was fine until I yanked the calipers off. I always pull the slide pins for inspection and re lubing. I had to use channel locks and a non trivial amount of force to get them out. There was 0 lube left. They were dry and starting to even pit a little. Cleaned them up, re-lubed, and re-assembled everything. Drives like normal now. Because so many parts were replaced, I can't say for certain what exactly the fix was but I'm pretty confident it was those slide pins.

Was building pumpkin racers for a company event this week! This is a work in progress. The pumpkin attaches to this and has to be a structural element to the racer! Here it is from last year

Engineers and architects come up with some of the best nerdy events and I love them. Worked at a place that did egg drops from the second floor with assemblies around them to prevent crushing

Welp.

Had a great day yesterday at work. Finally got the green light on some changes I needed to make for our department and was feeling really good about things as I headed home.

Then the wife called. Apparently the kids were all screaming and yelling at each other in the back seat. She turned around to see what was going on.

Ahead of her a school buss pulled out in front of traffic so everyone ahead slammed on their brakes.

She didn’t.

EMTs came and checked them all out. She is fine. The kids are fine, but it shook all of them up pretty good.

I drove over there and sent them home in my car and I spent a few hours on the phone trying to get a tow truck. We switched insurers two days before so I couldn’t file a claim in the app or through the automated system.

Had to curse out a robot for 20 minutes and once I reached someone I spent an hour and half fixing that and getting a tow truck dispatched. Then waited another hour and a half for the tow truck to arrive.

We are all feeling pretty drained and stayed home today.

All that being said, this is putting a rush on getting my motorcycle set up for daily driver duty because we are now down to one car.

I got a Giant Loop Mojave setup yesterday (yay clearance sales!) and I’ll be tossing that on ASAP. I originally got them for day rides next year but I’ll be installing it today to keep my air compressor, spare tubes, and other nick knacks in.

New Wings exhaust arrives today and will be much less hazardous to me and my luggage. The factory exhaust is obscenely hot.

Will be replacing the factory hand guards with Cycra Ultra Probends for wind and better hand protection.

Also ordered a fueling dongle that tricks the ECU into richening up open loop fueling to also cool things down.

Ordered a Merino Wool thermal base layer, and am still debating on Oxford heated grips or heated gloves.

Also have a 6” Carpuride Apple CarPlay screen that has a front and rear dash cam, a Vanasche top clamp with AMPS mounting holes, and a few RAM mounts coming to mount it all up.

There are a few other things coming like a new keyless fuel cap system, kickstand bypass dongle, and Perun subframe hardware upgrade to just make it more reliable.

I wasn’t planning to ride this winter but I won’t have much of a choice now lol.

I’m glad you and yours are okay. Hope everything turns out better than expected.
Stay safe on that bike!
