  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

    How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

    Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. @SpaceEVDriver What really stands out to me, now that I've had the time to digest your data, is that the Harvester doesn't add nearly the cold-weather value I thought it would. Of course there's a lot of assumptions happening and we'll need to see closer to release, confirming EPA ranges and final chemistry and harvester tech. Changing oil twice a year just to get the right viscosity doesn't sound fun. I definitely won't miss oil changes, even if the filter and plug are easily accessible.

Yeah, there are a ton of assumptions I made in this, so I wouldn’t internalize those numbers.

I will say that for anyone who has range anxiety when thinking about driving a BEV, especially in the very cold, an EREV would probably relieve that anxiety. But there are other real hassles to deal with in a hybrid.

And the ability to warm the engine via a heat pump is a new possibility that’s beyond the block heaters of today and is a pretty interesting possibility for the very, very cold for someone who wants an EREV.

In Norway, there’s a regular winter range test of EVs. The websites are in Norwegian, so you may want to pass them through a translation tool.
This year, temperatures were down at -32 ºC (-26 ºF). The coldest they’ve seen in the 11 years they’ve run the test.


Here’s a table of the results for 2026. The red bars are percentage deviation from the WLTP (not the EPA) range estimate.

Sadly, there weren’t many US BEVs in this test, since it’s a European test and there just aren’t many US-made BEVs, especially in the rest of the world.
