No more battery only option, like ever?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

So Scout Motors and some random influencer I have never heard of has a new video on facebook and several other social platforms saying that originally the Traveler was going to be battery only with a Harvester option but now it is releasing next year (always one year away...) but that EREV (so Harvester) will be the only option. I am only finding short clips of that video right now so I'm probably missing some context but...

Am I misunderstanding this? I know that Harvester was the most reserved option and it makes sense for them to prioritize those sales but when they say "originally it was going to be but now it is this instead" that sounds like the full BEV is either delayed drastically or not coming at all. I am not interested in an EREV option so if BEV is going away or delayed further then Scout is going to not be an option for me to pursue.

First of all, welcome to the community.

Second, you are in good company. Many on here are only interested in the BEV. A good follow is @Jamie@ScoutMotors. He has posted on this topic in the past.

Generally speaking, from what I have read on the forum is the production line will be able to produce both BEV and EREV. They are still taking reservations for both. Now as to what comes first and how long it will be between models, power source and trims, those facts we just don’t know yet.

Welcome again!

Welcome aboard.
They are still making both and the production line is capable of both. The general word is EREV’s will come first or at a larger volume since res count is 80%. That said I watched another influence that said BEV will still be first.
Now that you found all of us here on the forum rely on what you hear on this page and from @Jamie@acoutmotors to know the correct info.

My humble understanding is more effort is being put into the EREV line, as it is not only more complicated - but the BEV line had a head start. Since EREV's have about 4x the reservation, it is reasonable to assume that more production will be focused on it. Likewise, I personally feel that the EREV is more time sensitive.

While Scout has less competition on this line, the should exploit it. Eventually I suspect battery tech will erode interest in EREV's. Get the sales while they are easily available with limited competition, get the brand on the road, worry about the brand becoming an EV company later as battery tech improves and EREV's slowly loose the spotlight.

That said, I have a BEV reservation - and am significantly more interested in it than EREV's. I have waited a decade and a 1/2 to get my first EV, as I wanted one but they really did not satisfy my use case. I am hoping that the Scout BEV will bridge that gap with its initial production.

I don't know what clips you are looking at, but I have not seen anything from Scout Motors that indicates that there will not be a BEV option. The videos and posts I have seen have said that the Traveler Harvester will be delivered first, since it has the highest number of reservations. I have seen nothing from Scout that indicates they are delaying or cancelling the BEV versions.

Also, regarding your "always one year away..." comment: When they announced the Traveler and Terra in October 2024, they said initial production would be at the end of 2027. That has not changed. They have since added that initial deliveries to customers would be in 2028. I'm guessing here, but that probably means the initial production vehicles will go to the Scout Experience Centers. IMHO sending they initial production vehicles to the Experience Centers makes sense. With a direct to consumer sales model, Experience Center models are the only way the public can see (and sit in) the production vehicles before buying one.
