From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.
Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.
How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

It’s what the Anything Scout crew started calling some of their heavily modified Scouts. So kind of like Frankenstein Scouts lol. They’re pretty sick! These photos are from the Terrables Instagram. They got some cool videos on there youtube Channel with them.
I believe they had one at NATs when we were there last year. I will have to check my photos.
Go install a few HVAC systems. and you'll be fine. Just tell them to hold it for you.

Goldie Update! Finally got her registered. The DMV had me running around everywhere lol. I am currently working on a bunch of little things. I’m really busy the next few weeks and will be going on vacation, so updates might be a little slow. I’m currently working on my ignition switch. It’s really hard to turn, so I’m taking it apart and trying to loosen it up so the key doesn’t get stuck or break in there lol.
I took apart the rear axle and found that the outer bearing was bad, so I’m working on replacing both rear bearings.
I also went ahead and started replacing the brakes because I need to get it done, and since I’m down there, I might as well do it. I also picked up some new hoses. I’ll be installing a new lift on it as well. It’s 3.5 inches but will end up being a little taller than that. That’s my long Goldie update lol
I took apart the rear axle and found that the outer bearing was bad, so I’m working on replacing both rear bearings.
I also went ahead and started replacing the brakes because I need to get it done, and since I’m down there, I might as well do it. I also picked up some new hoses. I’ll be installing a new lift on it as well. It’s 3.5 inches but will end up being a little taller than that. That’s my long Goldie update lol
Heeeeeeey!!!!! That’s the one part of Scoutsie that survived being crushed/towed by the city of Boston way back in 1986 (or was it 1987? Now I’m not sure anymore). My dad couldn’t get it back on after someone tried to steal him one night (it was determined at some point that Scoutsie was a he/him).

I’m thinking at this point I’m just going to have to replace the ignition cylinder. It shouldn’t be too long of a fix.
Check and make sure it's the cylinder and not the ignition switch. The switch is lower down on the column and there's a metal rod between the cylinder and the switch that moves the switch when you turn the key.
When I had my 1976 Scout II in high school, the ignition switch locked up on me one night when my friends and I had taken it to visit some of our other friends on New Year's Eve one year. We had to spend the night there, but it was fun. The switch had been getting harder to operate for a while until it finally just seized up.
The next day, I went to the auto parts store and got a new switch, but I never bothered to install it correctly and put the steering column back together in the rest of the time I owned the Scout. I just plugged in the wiring harness to the switch and left it hanging under the dash, and when I wanted to start it I just used the metal rod that previously connected the switch to the key cylinder and I just slid the switch to the different positions (Off, Acc, On, Start) with the rod.
