Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
The only way I would even consider it is if it was like the way my friend ordered her BMW. She went to the dealership, clicked all the boxes, and they built it to her specs. Then I would just pick it up at the factory. But if there’s any kind of dealer markup or ridiculousness nope nope nope. Not happening.
My BMW is good and doesn’t act like many shady dealers. It really doesn’t have to be that way.

My guess/hope is that if Scout Motors loses enough cases to make DTC non-viable, they’ll buy themselves out of VWAG and go it alone without VWAG and especially without the dealership parasites.
They’ll need to come up with 3B+ to do so. Considering all their cash is coming from VW I don’t see that happening. They haven’t positioned themselves the way Rivian has signing big $ deals with Uber/Amazon nor having any other institutional investors like other Auto start ups.
This is still early, VW probably was prepared for outcomes like this, if they end up losing that’s a whole other discussion on corporate negligence

FWIW - VWAG also has International...

I guess one of the only real problems there - I suspect state dealer laws require dealers to service what they sell (I think that was one of the prime reasons we got dealer laws in the first place). I doubt International wants to service consumer vehicles.

They don’t necessarily need to buy themselves out with cash. There are lots of other ways.

But it may not matter. In 2023, the CA legislature made it nearly impossible for any new vehicle manufacturer to sell without dealerships, and that law is the basis for letting parts of the case in question to go forward.

As far as the CA case goes, it looks like it will just be VWGoA and Scout Motors in the case. VWAG is likely to be removed from it. Their motion to dismiss was granted by the CA District Court and they will be removed unless the dealers can come up with a strong argument in an amendment.

For VWGoA and Scout, the Court allowed what seem like the most serious allegations (unfair competition and false advertising) to move to the next stage of the case.

There are still troubling signs of what could be coming, but it’s not all over yet. The motions to dismiss are disposed of. The dealers have until 13 April to file an amended complaint trying to preserve their arguments that were dismissed. If they don’t file, then the case moves forward with VWGoA and Scout needing to respond to the remaining complaints by 20 April.

If Hyundai does make this, I don’t think it’s gonna look like the concept.
