Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I am still torn, but I am also impulsive, so this may be what tips the needle to the Harvester option for me.

Though there are still a few variables.

What I would like to know up front, is what the price difference will be.

If its $7k for the Harvester option as some have speculated, I would just wait for a BEV.

Their cost will be similar between both models so I wouldnt want to pay that premium especially when maintenance costs are also higher over the lifetime of the vehicle.
The maintenance point is a good one, especially since we're not talking about a simple scooter engine like the i3 REx, this is a full on 4 cylinder car engine meaning oil changes, spark plugs, air filters, the inevitable water pump/coolant issues because VW, leaks, etc. Even if those items are covered under warranty it's still a time investment.

No way would I get an ICE. A delay of the BEV would just mean I was more likely to be able to afford a Scout.
True enough. My indecision behind the question is likely related to my reasons for buying a Scout in the first place. I grew up with them, i learned to drive in them, my first car was a Scout, and therefore I have a huge emotional attachment to what the Scout name represents in my life. I don’t need a Scout…. But I sure want one. Like @cyure I’m pretty much convinced the BEV is the best choice.

Okay I know in a thread recently we were discussing which model might come first and if that would be BEV/EREV specific. This article speculates the EREV will come first. I still think BEV because they started developing it first. All this to say who the heck knows. 🤷‍♀️

@Jamie@ScoutMotors can we get clarification on this?

But in a business status this is probably the best move, to start getting money on the table. Since BEV reservations are already lower.

I don't care so much because well I'm all in for harvester.

For me a want would imply the willingness to wait for the specific one you want. But perhaps I’m misunderstanding.

We had two Scouts when I was a kid; I rebuilt a Chevy V8 to install in one of the Scouts. I learned to weld (poorly) with an oxy torch while installing the Chevy engine. I was already driving by the time we got the Scouts (on an off-grid ranch—us kids were the workhorses), but I did drive them a lot. That said, I am missing the nostalgia gene, so I can’t really say it's something I want because it’s a Scout.

Here’s a question. If the BEV is delayed a year, would you get an EREV instead of waiting? I asked myself this and wasn’t able to come up with a definitive answer.

Nope - would feel like a huge downgrade to go back to ICE at this point. Would wait for the BEV or buy something else. Maybe Rivian will have a new R1T with a slightly longer bed at that point too.

When I speak of “want”, I picture a small child having a tantrum jumping up and down when not getting a sweet soon enough. From my vantage point now, a little maturity helps mitigate the drooling anticipation.

Timing on everything is very much dependent on a number of variables and is not finalized. Lots of speculation out there.

EWWWWWWWW

Toyota has lost the plot!

That C-Pillar looks horrible. And something weird is going on around the fender flares in the rear, with the rear of the vehicle.
