    We are Scout Motors.
Okay I know in a thread recently we were discussing which model might come first and if that would be BEV/EREV specific. This article speculates the EREV will come first. I still think BEV because they started developing it first. All this to say who the heck knows. 🤷‍♀️

The speculation here is the kind of thing that's easy to see with a brand like Stellantis where they telegraph their moves years in advance, but it's tough to know where Scout Motors is. I think if we see a loss of talent or C-Suite team members, that speculation will start to hold more weight. But there haven't been any such announcements that I'm aware of.

Here’s a question. If the BEV is delayed a year, would you get an EREV instead of waiting? I asked myself this and wasn’t able to come up with a definitive answer.

Scout Motors Makes Additional $300 Million Investment in South Carolina to Build Supplier Park

Initiative projected to support 1,000 supplier jobs and spur $368 million of additional local investment for a cumulative investment impact of nearly $700 million

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Scout Motors is making an additional investment of $300 million in South Carolina to build a Supplier Park on the site of its Production Center in Blythewood. This initiative, which does not come with any new government incentives, is expected to support approximately 1,000 additional supplier jobs and represents a critical expansion of the company’s existing investment of more than $2 billion in the state.

“This expansion reinforces our long-term commitment to American manufacturing and reflects our continued belief in South Carolina as a hub for automotive innovation and economic growth,” said Scott Keogh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Scout Motors. “Our on-site Supplier Park will strengthen our production capabilities and help establish a vibrant, resilient supply chain ecosystem that will benefit the region for decades to come.”

Located adjacent to the main Production Center buildings, the Supplier Park spans nearly 200 acres and will feature more than 2.3 million square feet of specialized manufacturing and logistics space across three key centers:• Just in Time (JIT) Facility dedicated to sequencing parts for final vehicle assembly.• Battery Assembly Building designed for high-volume battery assembly.• Accessories Building to support upfitting and installation of vehicle accessories.

In addition to building the physical footprint, Scout Motors is in the process of finalizing supplier contracts that are expected to drive a multiplier effect across the local economy. Early estimates suggest that supplier agreements already awarded represent $368 million in investments and are expected to support more than 1,000 new jobs in South Carolina.

The Supplier Park will serve as a central logistics and production hub, supporting seamless delivery of parts, batteries, and accessories to Scout Motors’ main assembly operations. The size and scope ofthe park reflect Scout Motors’ strategy to build a fully integrated, domestic supply chain for its trucks and SUVs.

"When Scout Motors announced they were coming to South Carolina, we knew it would set off a chain reaction of investment and job creation across our state," said Governor Henry McMaster. "This announcement further highlights Scout Motors’ commitment to our continued prosperity and the seemingly limitless economic opportunities they're creating for our people."

“The latest investment from Scout Motors demonstrates their strong commitment to our state and reinforces our position as a leader in manufacturing,” said U.S. Senator Tim Scott. “This expansion will not only create jobs but support continued growth and opportunity in South Carolina.”

"I am grateful that Scout Motors is investing additional funds in the Second Congressional District, creating hundreds of new, good-paying jobs, benefiting businesses throughout the state,” said U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson. “As an indication of my support, I have personally provided payment to reserve a Scout hybrid pickup truck.”

“This $300 million Supplier Park and the 1,000 new jobs it brings to South Carolina reflect the impact of Scout’s decision to call our state home," said SC Senate President Thomas Alexander. “This investment is a powerful reminder that our state can compete with anyone in attracting investment and jobs, while ensuring that families and communities here at home share in the benefits of today’s announcement for generations to come.”

“Scout Motors’ decision to expand their investment in South Carolina confirms what we have long known — our state is a premier destination for innovation and growth,” said SC House Speaker Murrell Smith. “This new Supplier Park will not only bring good jobs and economic opportunity to Richland County but will also strengthen the foundation of prosperity for generations of South Carolinians to come.”

“This supplier park is a major milestone in the Scout Motors project and for Richland County, signifying a new era of growth in innovative manufacturing and opportunity,” said Jesica Mackey, Co-Chair, Columbia Area Development Partnership and Chair, Richland County Council. “Not only does it infuse an immediate investment of capital that further strengthens our community, it sets the stage for other businesses to enter the market that will bring in career opportunities and partnerships.”

The construction contract has been awarded to Evans General Contractors, a nationally respected firm with strong local ties. PRP Real Assets is serving as the Project Advisor.

“It has been an incredible opportunity to work with the Scout Motors team on the new plant,” said Paul C. Dougherty, President of PRP Real Assets. “PRP is honored to be a small part of what will be themost thrilling new trucks and SUVs ever produced. We look forward to seeing the new vehicles roll off the assembly line in Blythewood, SC.”

Ugh. I just finally got my husband convinced to get the BEV and I don’t want to deal with maintenance issues. No more oil changes! I guess it depends on how long the delay is, if this article is correct, but who knows. Half the time I think these auto journalists are pulling this out of the air.

Im really excited about getting a BEV. Now I have my heart set on that.

"air" is polite... :). (sorry)

I would definitely wait for the BEV if there was a year delay. My personal options are going to be either wait until the BEV is released, or if there was some crazy delay, look at alternative BEV options like F-150 Lightning in the interim. Hopefully that won't be necessary though.

I signed up for BEV, switched to EREV, but as time passes I don't think I need that crutch and BEV is the better choice. I'm fine if Scout delays it a year or whatever, but if my daily needs replacement in that time or before, then I'll just have to get something else.

I am still torn, but I am also impulsive, so this may be what tips the needle to the Harvester option for me.

Though there are still a few variables.

What I would like to know up front, is what the price difference will be.

If its $7k for the Harvester option as some have speculated, I would just wait for a BEV.

Their (Scout's) cost will be similar between both models so I wouldnt want to pay that premium especially when maintenance costs are also higher over the lifetime of the vehicle.

If they cost the same upfront I will probably take the Harvester model sooner.
