EREV initial release only?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Exactly. Pessimism in 3 other threads is plenty. We all like open conversation and debate but that is spreading in multiple threads and I will say it would be nice to keep the positive vibes flowing around here
Now rumors are being posted on FB and people are talking about cancelling. I despise rumor based posts

Honestly rumors & speculation don't bother me - part of the joy coming from following automotive industry (never worked a day anywhere near it).

That's a big factory complex happening in SC, its not going to just end. If BEV is delayed, its delayed. Some can't wait, some can be flexible to wait (like me), and some might burn their new car fund on extravagant travel instead (also like me).

While I will not be overjoyed with a protracted and undefined wait - I can try to look at a silver lining. Building a few test EV's will not be difficult, they will most likely still build test vehicles. Longer testing might work out kinks. Plus changes in battery tech might become commercially available while we are waiting.

This whole Autopian article is exactly like the hubbub over the towing comment on Jay Leno’s YouTube show. A lot of people all upset and cancelling reservations over a comment by the CEO when all the fine details haven’t been ironed out.

Same here with the EV vs EREV timing. We just simply do not know at this stage. I’m willing to give quite a bit of grace at this stage of development. Now… if we were late 2026 or mid 2027 and this was being said, then I may give it a little more credence.

Well said and hope more people except your point of view on this 😀

Thank you!

Still optimistic for Scout and definitely keeping my reservation for now but this makes me even more glad that I bought the Lightning recently, in case the Scout BEV launch does get delayed. More time for me to pay off the Lightning and save for the Scout.

After about a month of driving the Lightning, I have zero interest in the Harvester or any other configuration that includes an ICE.

Yep. People should just chill and enjoy the ride (no pun). Instead, people should overreact to internet forums that deal with important issues - like college football.

Wild guess is that EREV development lags BEV, so launch was going to be BEV-only followed by EREV maybe a year later (?). Perhaps the plan is to delay launch until EREV is ready to go as counterpart to BEV from Day One? Harmless speculation.

And sorry for the snark, but if you're obsessing over recapturing that $100 deposit perhaps this isn't the market for you - consider a nice Camry instead? We've got $1k locked up as deposit in a retirement home (long story) but don't forecast needing such a thing until maybe ~2050, or perhaps never, who knows. Good to plan ahead though.

Did you happen to watch Scott's interview on Bloomberg the other day? They asked him about the EREV versus BEV.

I can’t listen right now, what did he say?
Scott Keogh on Bloomberg. Highlights: Regarding the Harvester models being made first, both models are being developed in parallel. 80% of reservations are for Harvesters. Scout "would probably lean with the EREV, but nothing we've announced yet". They will announce as soon as possible. Over 130k reservations. The plant will take around 3 years to achieve full capacity. Scott said he doesn't see Scout offering an ICE-only vehicle. Performance figures: over 600 hp, 1000 lb-ft of torque, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, 500 miles of range. Making vehicles for other brands is "an absolute possibility", but nothing to announce. Direct-to-consumer is harder, but it's the right way. Scott also mentions an MPGe of "over 70".

And that the production capability is 200,000 a year and that the world is heading electric.

Someone recently had suggested renting a Lightning for a week or so to get an idea of living with one. I thought that was a great idea, but have had a hard time finding one that wasn’t going to cost a fortune to rent for a week.

My reservation is Harvester, but ultimately I may change based on final specifications. For instance, I’m not going to compromise the towing or payload capacity for the extra range.

I’ve wasted $100 before way faster, and on worse things, than that deposit I made :ROFLMAO:

Scuttlebutt is that it's an Audi luxury 4x4 to compete with the G-Wagon.

I rented an Ioniq 5 for a week from Turo. It was an eye opener for me and firmly set my change from Harvester to BEV. For me, that was my first EV experience. I'm not sure if that is what you're looking for or if you're thinking something more off road capable or heavy duty EV.

I’m a contractor and use my truck daily for towing, hauling. So I just want to make sure I can live with one on a daily basis. I remember early on seeing TFLTruck with the Lightning and the towing range going clear down to something like 89 miles. That would just not cut it for me, which is what made the Harvester so appealing.

So, renting a Lightning would be ideal to see if I can really do it.
