Don't let the Scout become a status symbol; why $60k misses the point of the Revival

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
It's not a 1:1 but I think if you look at Audi's trim level bumps its probably fairly in % increase wise I'd expect for Scout trim levels.

Without adjusting any options, the standard A3:

Premium: $41k
Premium Plus: $44k
Prestige: $47k

With additional options packages ranging from $800-1800. (And these are just the packages, not individual accessory additions)

And then there's the S3 and RS3 which go all the way up to $75k without any options.
The trick there is Audi already starts with a lot of premium features-curious what SM will package in the $60K starter vehicles

Ford Bronco

Base: 40k
Big Bend: 41k
Outer Banks: 48k
Badlands: 50k
Heritage: 51k
Stroppe: 75k
Raptor: 80k

Packages on "Base" go up to $8k, with additional options for the roof ranging from $500 to $3.2k and a plethora of exterior and interior options from $100 to $2k (I don't know if any of these go into any of the packages).

Personally I really, really dislike this model and would prefer package groupings similar to what VW/Audi does since "choice" ends up turning into "noise" and then "anxiety" for me. Give me 2-4 trim levels with a limited set of options packages (the top level should include all of them by default) and then go wild with the accessory options (which I can purchase from Supply later if I want!).

I agree. And I hate it when you pick a package and then pick another package and it says you have to delete the first package.

If a it gets up to 83-85k with just options you can’t add (at least not easily) after the fact, I can see that as reasonable, things like ACC or power seats in a charger STX for example, but if you can swap the stock bumper for the bull bar latter or add the rock rails and roof rack a year two after purchase that might make a possible final price of 100K+ a little more manageable

I’m hoping it’s like a Wrangler that way and you can change and add things throughout your years of ownership.

For that price range i hope it has a lot of “standard features” so it feels like a $60,000 vehicle. You dont feel you have to add tons of stuff if you dont want to. If that makes any sense.
Makes sense. But if too much included some people will argue it could have been cheaper or stripped down more. It’s a tight rope walk for sure

I feel like people just wanna complain, I might not be that old, but I grew up in older vehicles with manual windows, seats, mirrors, there’s zero reason these things shouldn’t be standard on modern vehicles, I drive a 22 but still have manual seats, so I don’t get the seat memory, which is needed for the mirrors to rotate down in reverse. I don’t have rear cup holders, I can’t even use the navigation section in my dashboard without OnStar because the infotainment screen didn’t have the “pre installed” map

That’s fair but the majority of buyers don’t want stripped and will buy Scout because it looks great and has a “cool story”. But this day and age I’ve worked hard and I do want those upgraded features. Had many a car with manual everything but when 95% of retail vehicles include these features you can’t offer a new car without it. At least not at this price point-honestly even if it were $40K those features would be expected by 98% of buyers.
From my end it’s like granite. Everyone expects it now though it used to be a luxury item

with a starting price of 60k in the 2020s power everything is a reasonable expectation to me, on an EV having heated seats should also be standard since it’s more energy efficient to heat your seat than run the hvac, and the cameras if it’s loaded with them we should be able to access them as dash cams instead of buying something off a shelf. I think it’s jus from my POV whatever I buy next will need to be capable of being a 10 year+ vehicle and for that if I were to buy at its cheapest I would expect it to reasonably loaded with creature comfort. Though I started my savings with the goal of a Silverado EV so if I can manage that by ordering time, I don’t think options will be an issue unless they get trim/package locked

I feel like any vehicle that offers a hand-cranked window in this day and age was probably designed by VILLAINS. Be serious! The Kia rental I had most recently had power windows. If I have to hand-adjust my seat, I don’t think my wrists will break, but if I am hand-cranking a window I will send a poop (mine or my cat’s TBD) in the mail to whoever is responsible.
