So I want to start a thread of dos and don’t. I’m very frustrated with the automotive industry lately. Forcing things on consumers that we don’t want or need. Scout has the chance to really take some market share from the big off-roader companies. Let start a list of Dos and don’t
1 Dos FOCUS ON QUALITY FIRST! Toyota has slipped going against a platform that worked. Adopt tech late focus on quality and durability first. ( yes I am a tundra owner ). It has taken several decades for Toyota to build trust and they really destroyed it a few years with the new tundra. Focus on gaps rattles for cars over 60k consumer expect quality materials and workmanship. Your reputation could be made or broken in the first 24 months.
Do offer extended warranties. As a new car company with new models you will have issues offer 8 year 80,000 mile bumper to bumper. Stand behind your workmanship. Give me comfort and confidence.
Make the suv serviceable. I don’t want pay 1000$ every 50,000 miles to change spark plugs because they are impossible to get to. The people who are die hard environmentalists should be more concerned that cars are becoming throw away items gas is not the enemy it’s a consumerism planned obsolescence mentality. Don’t be like Tesla / Rivian who won’t sell replacement parts to their owners.
Do Allow us to modify things. I get it safety features are there for a reason but I should be able to turn off the seat belt alarm myself. I should. Be able to back up with the door open at low speeds. These things are useful for farm use. I understand there are laws that need to be followed from the factory but as the owner of the truck I’d like to be able to turn these things on and off.
Dont force subscriptions to unlock software. If the hardware is in the truck/suv bake it into the price.
Don’t add tech for the sake of tech. Remember squealers. They let you know when your brakes needed changed. We took a 10 cent part and turned it into A 50$ sensor for each wheel. There is beauty in simplicity. When possible just keep it simple.
