We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

Now k have a bunch of closeups of various parts of the Traveler.

First up. Pedals. SM even carried the tartan pattern through to the pedals. I did not notice this the other two times I saw them.

It’s the attention to detail that makes me so happy when I see them. I’m hoping this is a detail that makes it to production. I know it’s small and it’s down by our feet, but sports cars get racing pedals. A Scout deserves distinctive pedals.

Yes I like it too. I wonder if we will be able to pick a clan-specific tartan for the interior of our Scouts.

I’m really glad I was able to see the cabana roof closed on the Traveler. Typically when she’s on display the roof is open. Like I stated above, I’m back to being unsure. I was 90/10 glass/ cabana before this trip. I’m back to 50/50. If I could get a lighter color headliner that might actually push me over the edge to cabana roof. I just don’t like dark roofs. I feel like I’m in a cave.

I could provide you with complaints about the sunroof drains on a GTI...
We have had multiple convertibles and never one that leaked. Now the plastic window in our Z3 got so cloudy you couldn’t see out of it.

We have never had a roof like the cabana roof. How likely is something like to eventually leak. My Scout will be garaged and won’t be sitting out in the elements.

I think it would depend on how the driver wants to manage it.

Assume the 500 miles range as advertised. Assume a 15 gallon tank. Assume the idealized 150 miles of range on all-electric.
However, apply the same efficiency reduction to this as we did for the BEV (a 25% reduction).
So, 112.5 miles of range.
And assuming 23 mpg based on 350 miles of gas-only range * 75% is 17.25 mpg.
Assume 691 miles on the way out as I did in my first example.
Assume 55.6 kWh of battery (based on 2 miles/kWh for the non-ideal range).

Assume $4.62/gallon average cost of gas on the way out.
Assume $4.75/gallon average cost of gas around town and on the way home.
These are based on the same stops mentioned by @cyure.

Assume the driver doesn’t stop for charging during the drive, but does charge at the hotel. So only gas stops during the drive.

Trip out:
The vehicle will get 112.5 miles on electric-only: 55.6 kWh @ $0.174/kWh = $9.67
The rest will be gas: 578.5 miles @ 17.25 mpg; 33.5 gallons @ $4.62/gal = $154.94

Recharge 55.6 kWh overnight for free, so that’s 112.5 miles for free.

Trip around town and back home:
839.5 miles (952 - 112.5).
839.5 miles @ 17.25 mpg @ $4.75/gal = $231.17

Add in the cost to recharge and refuel at home, making the same assumption (full recharge and 60% of a full tank needs refueling):
9 gallons * $4.52 = $40.68
55.6 kWh * $0.174/kWh = $9.67

If we use @cyure 17 mpg for her Jeep, and an average of $4.69/gallon: Total distance of 1643 miles / 17 mpg = 96.65 gallons @4.69 = $453.27.

Total cost to drive the EREV: $446.14
Total cost to drive the BEV: $303.79
Total cost to drive the Supra: $312.70
Total cost to drive the Jeep: $453.27

Note that we’re comparing a large SUV with a small Supra, so the efficiency difference makes a huge difference here.
Also note that these numbers are very precise when they’re probably only good to two significant figures, at best. So I would say:

Estimates:
$450 for the EREV
$450 for the Jeep
$310 for the Supra.
$300 for the BEV

Another Note: Most people don’t do a lot of long distance road trips so the EREV will perform better around town than the Jeep, getting an average of about (we’re still guessing here) 33 mpg, so almost twice the efficiency of the Jeep for around town.

A driver who stops to eat lunch could choose to recharge instead of gassing up (or do both). They could save themselves some money by recharging.
So, I just returned from a trip. Annapolis, MD to Gatlinburg, TN. 4 Adults and a mature beagle in a Pilot. Left Wed at 0600 arrived at 1500 Stopped at BJs for Gas and Cook Out for lunch in Roanoke. Stopped at BJs in Sevierville for Gas. 4-ish days of driving up and down and up and down the mountain to/from a cabin, 5 passes to Dollywood (and parking, and park meals), 4 passes to mountain coaster and putt putt. Breakfast, lunches, & dinners out, groceries (did I mention for 3 adult BOYs). Dinner in Maryville (Blackhorse brewery). Left Sunday at 0800, BJs in Sevierville for Gas. Lunch at Gypsy Circus Ciderworks in Kingsport, Gas at Buc-cees in Stuanton, home by 2130.

So, how much would this have cost me in a new Scout with or without a cabana top?
 
This may not be popular, but I just do not like this color or color combination. The color on the top would look good on the entire body.
Color is very personal. I think the Scout is beautiful, the lines, design, etc, but there are colors I like better than others. I would not select this color, and that’s okay.
 
Another view of the hitch. The bumper looks modular. I’m hoping that means those of us who don’t tow will be able to order without the hitch. Living in Illinois, to me that’s just one more piece to eventually rust as that will be covered in salty slush every winter.

If it is modular, I wonder how easy it would be to add a hitch after purchase? I don't have a current need for towing, but I don't know that a camper is 100% out of my future...

We’d need to know full mileage, at a minimum. It would also help to know the miles driven up and down and etc the mountain. Maybe the cabin has L2 charging, so we could remove that up and down and etc from the equation because that charging is “free.”

For the drive between Annapolis and Gatlinburg and back, assuming an average of 2 miles/kWh, you could expect to spend approximately 565 kWh over 1088 miles. In a BEV with a 130 kWh battery, this is an approximate breakdown.

Assume starting with a full charge at $0.16/kWh, or $20.80 to fill the truck from 0% to 100% at home. Do that once before leaving and again when you get home, for $41.60 total cost.
Assume free charging for your local explorations plus a full charge before returning home. That free charge at the cabin means instead of needing to pay for 565 kWh, you only have to pay for approximately 435 kWh.

Assume the cost of charging at DCFCs is an average of $0.48/kWh, that’s 435 kWh * 0.48 = $208.80

Total cost, if you can find free L2 charging in Gatlinburg or the cabin nearby:

$208.80 + $41.60 ~= $250.

If you can’t find free charging in Gatlinburg and you decide to DCFC, the total cost will be dependent on the total miles you need to recover while there. My guess is that you might have to pay $50 more.

You can estimate this with ABRP. Map the trip between the two locations and make it a round trip, adjust the settings at the destination so that you get N hours at M kWh charging to you return the vehicle to 100% before the return trip.
