Any Update on NADA and Our fight for DTC?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scoutsâ„¢. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I know that Rivian is working around NJ franchise law by opening Service centers, that will be selling vehicles. I found this out because one of my uncle's is building the space and that's what they were told. I don't know how legal it is but its always is an option for Scout. And from what I read it seems this is how Rivian is working around franchise laws.

That fits with the language I read for Florida. May be the same for NJ.

No need to be nervous. This will be an ongoing thing for a while in individual states. Keep in mind this isn't an issue for existing states where direct sales are allowed. We will keep everyone up to date as things progress.
@Jamie@ScoutMotors can you or @codythacker post which states the Scouts can clearly be sold in? Some have odd caveats listed so I’m sometimes stumped by which can and can’t. Thanks

That might be the easiest way around it, if im being honest. Put retail locations in states that will allow and then put service centers down that will also be able to deliver vehicles.
Tesla does that in Florida and it works well so if Scout can do the same they should be able to sell direct to consumer with no issues, though Florida dealers are likely going to try to sue anyway even though it’s probably very unlikely for them to win a lawsuit.

This is what Tesla does here in OK. However there is a wrinkle that has to do with how you finance the vehicle that may or may not apply to other states. I had to pick up my last Tesla in Kansas City.

It would be pretty cool if Scout had Rallys at launch where buyers can take delivery and spend a weekend camping with Scout employees hitting some trails while they demonstrate features and capabilities for the new owners.

As long as camping means in a place with a bathroom and showers. Oh and a bed. So glamping! That really does sound like a great idea.

I wonder if there is space at the factory to build something like a proving/training course. People could come and take factory delivery (get a tour and such) and get some offroad training as part of the deal. They can then drive home or have it shipped. Similar to how some of the European makers do it.

Welcome to the community! It sounds like something like that is planned from what I have read. I’m planning on factory delivery at this point and many others are mentioning it as well.

Thanks! Looking forward to it. I've been driving Teslas since 2010 (2010 Roadster [sold in 2021], 2012 Model S P85 [sold in 2018], 2018 Model S 100D, 2022 Model X Plaid) and had a deposit down for a Cybertruck but cancelled it - the truck just wasn't what they promised. Rivian makes a nice truck but the cost is high and I can't get over how ugly the grill is. I looked at the Lightning and Silverado but neither moved me (although if I needed a truck today it would be the Silverado). But then I saw the Scout offerings and I knew I had found the answer. They just got so much right, specifically the balance between digital and analog (I HATE how Tesla is doing away with every physical knob and switch - I installed aftermarket stalks on my MXP), pricing and packaging are right where I want them, etc. Let's just hope they can deliver!
