Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I felt like this was very relevant to the conversation.

This is going to be HUGE for streamlining EV adoption and give us thousands of more options when it comes to finding a place to charge on the road.

Approximately 90% of the US population lives within 10 miles of a Wal-Mart with the median average being 4.2 miles.

Costco has EV charging in many states, with the newest charger installations being Electrify American DC fast charging.

I sure hope so. From purely personal bias though I hope they don't build out first in the highly populated areas. I hope they do the underserved rural areas first. Lots of companies can and do provide charging around population centers. I want better options when traveling around the rural west.

I like that strategy for several reasons. Since the demand may not be quite as high in the more rural areas it will let them work out any kinks before launching in busier areas. It will also put fast charging in areas that allow for more convenience on road trips that may be off the beatn path.
 
I'm not a huge fan of Walmart (and have never actually stepped foot inside one), but I have charged at EA stations that are located in Walmart lots and they are quite convenient. Having the backing of a giant retailer is a good thing - esp as a "value retailer". They should be competitively priced in terms of rate, but might need to be a Walmart+ member to take advantage of that value-based pricing.

As of right now you use the regular Wal-Mart app with the chargers and dont have to be a member, but you do still need a Wal-Mart account.

Skip to 31:57 in the video and they discuss pricing vs competition and membership pricing. It indeed sounds like if you want lower rates youll need a Wal-Mart + membership.

Bummer, but not surprised.
 
I’ve been fairly vocal with my opinion on Scout. I have zero interest in a full EV because I’m not confident the charging infrastructure is where it needs to be in my area. The Harvester allows me to have the convenience of an EV for day to day use, but gives me the confidence of a gas motor when I need it. I’m really excited about the potential of the Harvester.
100% agree. I also am not currently interested in a pure EV and do not expect to be at any point in the next several years, so will not be switching my reservation from Harvester to Traveler. My interest in a Traveler Harvester is for the benefit of EV on my daily 52 mile round trip commute, plus the ability to drive and trailer my Wrangler on long distance road trips using gas. I've probably repeated myself a number of times in other posts so I apologize for duplication, but if it turns out the final max towing capacity of the Harvester really is just 5k, I probably will cancel my reservation entirely and just stick with an gas V8 SUV, assuming that's something that is even still available a few years down the road.

Again personal bias, but the big thing for me is that Walmart said pull through chargers are part of the plan. Not all pull through, but at least some. Coming in, unhooking the trailer at the outskirts of the parking lot, then heading over to an EA charger in the middle would be a hassle.

Oh, and I just realized 3 1/2 hours later, are the EA chargers in a Walmart parking lot Level 2? The Walmart owned chargers will be DCFC capable of at least 400 kW. Level 2 is fine for local shopping days, DCFC is necessary for travel days. Actually I hope Walmart puts DCFC further out in the lot, less convenient for local shoppers with more room for pull through, plus plenty of Level 2 closer in for the locals. It could truly be a big step forward.

Didn’t know that. Have to check ours. I still hate going to Costco but now I could drop wife at door and just sit in car at charger to avoid the inside chaos 🤣

Same. I want to be able to tow my Jeep to Moab or Rubicon, every other year or so. : )

LMAO! That’s fine-there’s a Lowe’s next door I can window shop in or a McD’s for some fries and a Coke 😀
I can't be trusted to go in a lowes. Last time i was in there i bought a $500 flex impact and drill with stacked lithium. Things a beast. Got rid of my snap on and I'm starting to move into more big box store easy to get tools. Saves time and alot of money.
