Real Bench Seat

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I’ve owned vehicles with the old school bench seats, and newer vehicles with bench seat/flip down console, it’s NOT the same when the middle section is stationary, it’s VERY uncomfortable.
I’m begging you PLEASE
bring back the original design, 50/50 split adjustable or all three adjustable.
Thank you

It would be interesting to see what drives the demand for the bench seat. I want a bench, but seriously doubt anyone will ever be riding in the center section. For me, it will mostly be so a dog can get a 60% seat. When I was younger, I thought a bench would be nice for girlfriends - but reality, even girlfriends preferred to sit on the far 40% the vast majority of the time (abet it probably depended on where in the relationship we were-very early on, the percentage might have been up slightly).

Anyway, a flip down console would make the most sense for me almost all the time (giving me the option for a dog to get a little closer when they were the primary passenger).
Good point. I could see a Terra commercial with a contractor who has a company mascot”dog” so during commute the dog is right there with head on drivers leg then at the job site contractor is in passenger seat on laptop with the pull out tray and the dog is looking over the steering wheel at the job site. And somewhere in there is a cool storyline.

As a family of three, I suspect we'd all be up front often, with the rear seats folded down for a larger cargo area. Perfect for Home Depot and Costco runs! I wonder how many pine straw bales I can fit in the back of a Traveler? Or, maybe a repeat of 2020? I'll bet I can squeeze a LOT of Charmin in the back, though Mr. Whipple would NOT approve.

I am definitely getting the bench. We are a family of 4 so wouldn't need the bench often, however I have 6 seats now (3 rows of 2) and once a month or so I need the extra seats to carry my kid's friends to school, activities, etc.

That’s the ideal reason to get them. But does the front middle hump become the cool seat or the crappy seat? And does it depend on which kiddo’s friends are being hauled?

The front center seat has a big screen in front of it, so of course it'll be the cool seat for kids nowadays!

Old school, manual adjustment, single bench is cheaper - probably not a huge amount. Less material, less parts, quicker install. As soon as you make add power, split, and a console - you will be increasing the cost. I don't see any huge difference in cost between that and buckets. I guess there is a little more material, there is more upholstery and an additional hinge. A little more with a 40/20/40 (a third hinge and a fraction more upholstery). While I liked my 40/60 - I can see where a 40/20/40 has a little more in common with buckets (allows for similar rear ventilation and accessory mounts).

I would go for 40/20/40 split with manual bar for adjustment range front/back for the front bench seat to match either of the outboard seats. It would be nice also to have the same type of center arm rest option for the 2nd row 40/20/40 when you fold down the center seat to make it look like 2nd row cpt. chairs.

That’s a good idea for the backseat. My BMW sedan had a fold down armrest with the popout cupholders in the back. My kids liked that a lot. But don’t make the cupholders the popout kind. Make it just like the front seat.

Now the question is would that be an option that cost a few hundred dollars. I would pay that to get a console in the backseat.

With front and rear consoles, you could still seat 4 and store long items down the middle. Sounds useful.

I just hope we can recline the 2nd row back in the SUV a little bit for more comfort for long road trips (further back the better). Please add 2nd row ceiling or side pilar air vents AND hatch vents (for pets). It takes awhile to cool down my current 6 passenger SUV in triple digit heat when sitting in the sun all day (even with tinted windows, sunroof cover closed, and windshield shade).

I would like to volunteer for a way-back machine Scout commercial, which involves the front bench seat.

Here's how it goes... (pan VIDEO from the front thru the windshield & side windows)

1. I get into my Scout Terra (BEV, of course) Driver's seat & Emotional Rescue by the Rolling Stones starts playing
2. Then my wife, or kids, or dog gets into the Scout on the passenger side.
3. Then we all go back in time to when we were way younger & looked way better (might need some AI for this)
4 The music stays the same since it was 1980, and the video flickers to show the Rolling Stones and what an old scout looked like with us in it.
5. Pan out to see rear of Terra (heads only from the back)
6. Drive off into the sunset
7. Hands wave like airplane wings out windows

End of commercial.

Scout makes millions.

Loving the idea. Definitely gotta have the wife cozied up next to you and the dog enjoying the fresh air out the passenger window.

What happens to the dog in the way-back machine though? Not sure how to convey a dog from ~five generations earlier...

Hmmm... Good question Maybe a granddoggy?

But its a commercial (not non-fiction) so we can take some liberties here...

Just a "snapshot in time" flickering in my mind from the wayback machine! 😄

I miss the "good ol' dayz" when you could roll down the 2nd row windows and not get hit with throbbing sonic booms blowing out your ear drums at hwy speeds!

Side Note: Do the 2nd row windows on the Terra and Traveler row all the way down?
