Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
This is why we’re leaving Ford. They made some really fantastic vehicles in the Lightning and the Mustang Mach-E.

But then they chickened out/bent the knee/whatever and cancelled the best-selling BEV truck on the market. I simply don’t trust that they will stick to it with the newest BEV pickup, which is already apparently likely to be delayed (insert my unsurprised face here).

I don’t trust that Ford under Farley will ever invest in long-term electric production for the sake of capturing part of the market. I think Farley is playing with tax write-offs, flapping in the breeze, and being reactionary instead of leading a large company into the future.
Ford behavior has truly been sad and erratic…

I think that's where companies like Rivian and Scout are getting it right. Right now with the technology we have and the current environment, this is going to swing back and forth. There's going to be demand for BEV when gas prices are high and then demand will wain when gas prices are low. These car manufactuers are being way too reactionary on this stuff. They need to pick a course and stick with it.
That’s the hard part and right now every 4 years may be the swing from gas to EV to gas

To be fair with Ford, outside of their gas trucks they've been floundering for the last 35 years... and I say that as someone who has up until this Scout purchase only bought Fords for myself. Always been a Ford fan, but yea they needed to stick with it with the Lightning. Offer the Lightning in a few different options besides just trim levels. The commercial market probably would have loved a regular cab or extended cab version for example. I don't think they're wrong to offer an EREV version, but they shouldn't have alienated their current Lightning customers by making that the only option.

I couldn't read the article, but I'm curious if it pointed to price at all? Maybe people just weren't willing to pay full price for a brand new vehicle? EVs have been known to depreciate rapidly so a 2-3 year old Lightning may just hit the budget right. I thought it was a great truck, but I get that people comparing the BEV to the ICE may have been turned off.
