Center Screen

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Have we heard for sure there’s not going to be a HUD? I didn’t think we had confirmation either way, but I may have missed something.
I wouldn’t say confirmation, but in one of the interviews I watched I don’t remember which one the person going over the interior was talking about the line of sight from the driver seat and how a HUD would just get in the way or something like that 🤷 I don’t remember the specifics since I saw this back in early December - late November just before I confirmed my reservation

All I care about is digital speedometer. It’s a personal preference, but I’m a weenie about trying to guess about where the needle on a speedometer is hitting. Digital readout isn’t ambiguous. Maybe it’s not 100% accurate because blah blahblahblahblah (I read a whiny thing about why my beloved kettle is apparently not in fact the super-best kettle because OH NO TWO DEGREES OFF FROM THE OPTIMAL 100 DEGREES CELSIUS NEEDED FOR PERFECT BLACK TEA, CALL MI6, GET OUR BEST MEN ON IT) but if it’s within a reasonable margin of error of like +-2 to 4, fine.

Well, here’s what I can say for a HUD from my personal experiences preferences and that is I’ve been told to slow down many times in school zones because when I’m in a school zone, I prefer to keep my eyes up on the road and my surroundings because I have a lot better reaction time at what feels like a slower speed which around 2025 then constantly looking down to make sure I’m doing 10 to 15 miles an hour having a hood puts that information directly in front of you while you’re still monitoring the road with less of a look away from the road at least in my personal experience and then there’s navigation where you can have your directions right in front of you on the road so to speak

I’ve grown to really like it in our cars. It’s for sure odd at the beginning but then it becomes an effective devise to keep eyes up and forward. Can live without but I’d be happier to have it

Exactly I can live without it myself, but if someone who uses my GPS 90% of the day, I wouldn’t mind having my directions right in front of me while I’m looking down the road

They do have ones you can add aftermarket that project usually just the speed.
I love mine for directions and speed too
I don’t think I could ever I was tempted to add the aftermarket driving assistant. I forget what it’s called but my Bolt accepts it but I can’t even be bothered with adding a mount to put my phone on. I don’t like putting things in my car like that specially if they have to be wired in anyway otherwise I would have a dash cam already mounted in my car, but it’s just been sitting in the garage for six months

Actually, the bench seat option and the required clearance (plus airbag deployment) dictated the rectangular screen more than anything.
The horizontal design of the dash with the bench seat (and Harvester) is what actually sold me. I was thinking not long before the reveal that I really wished designs would go back to more horizontal looking instead of vertical inside and out. Interestingly all the gigantic grills in the last 5 or so years have gone back to being more horizontal as well.

Oh, I’m slightly late to this part of the conversation, but if you’re not on board for HUD, it’s probably because you’re on Senator McCarthy’s list, ya red menace. 😤

Okay, there is in fact zero correlation between these two things, but I like having the option to project stuff like my speed or “take this exit/turn soon” on my windshield so that my eyes aren’t wandering around elsewhere, especially on a busy roadway with pedestrians. The A-panel on my current car is real thick and makes a great pedestrian/crosswalk blind spot, so anything that keeps my attention from being diverted by a different screen is welcome. Gotta process that information quickly! I guess studies show that HUDs can cause over-reliance, so they’re not totally positive, but research about them is generally positive. Generally. I get why people don’t love it.

I’m interested in what comes of AR-HUD research. That seems really interesting. 😍 I have been looking forward to the science fiction car future for a while.

Does a standard magazine come with that?
I get your joke, but for some they may not know that means Augmented Reality. My iX has AR that can be turned on or off. It appears on the screen. However, my HUD can be configured to show all sorts of things and it has a more basic AR capability than the screen. Still comes in very handy with navigation when you’re trying to keep your eyes on the road and not miss a turn.

I am glad it isnt any bigger. Too many huge screens in our lives. There are other offerings if that is what you are looking for.
My 2015 F150 has a decent sized screen in the center. Thing is, it’s night úseles anyhow. It shows music, but this was before CarPlay so it really doesn’t show much else. No líe, I actually would have been totally 100% fine if they didn’t have the center screen in this, I’m so used to my phone being the navigation if need be, or off 90% of the time anyhow.

Thanks. I had no idea!

Yes. The screen is nicely integrated versus an iPad attached to the dash that barely fits and looks like a gangly appendage
This was one of the deciding factors when I got my Dart. I also looked at a Mazda 3 (I think), and they had a screen but it was just there - "iPad attached to the dash" is the perfect description. Zero thought or attempt into making it look like it belonged.
