A less screen, focused layout

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I think a less screen focused layout would be really cool. You could add it as an option and also an option to add a CD and DVD player as I believe physical media to be very important and it would be a great option to have something like the C6 Corvette a small touchscreen tons of buttons especially for the drivetrain like the all EV mode and the hybrid that uses the EREV and towing etc buttons for these especially and a CD and DVD player basically the same interior they have now but with a 10 inch screen and a CD and DVD player with towing and drivetrain button controls and if you think this is a good idea upvote so more people can see

Not to be mean but cds players were found in most cars in 2014 a little over 10 years ago and maybe the reason why people don’t use their CDs and DVDs anymore. It’s because they have no place to put them. I bet if more cars had CD players a lot more people use them and talk about it plus I’m 18 years old and the CD and DVD is not some super old fantasy tech that only geriatric people use they were standard like 10 years ago
I get it, that stuff is coming back. Look at Vinyl, it’s been outselling CDs. My son has multiple Minidisc players. What’s old is new again.

Back in the day we had the binder full of CDs for the car. Or the visor Cd holder. Those things still exist. There’s no reason you couldn’t throw one in the car and if they have a way to connect an external player is that sufficient for you?

As with anything, things can be taken too far. Porsche has definitely taken buttons too far:

I think Scout is striking the right balance of physical and soft controls.

No CD Player please. I am sure they make portable bluetooth versions for the 5 people that want such a thing ;)

Very simple compromise and simple solution. Now where to mount a CD player, would actually prefer audio DVD because I have Eagles greatest hits and Metallica both on audio FVD and back in the day with my Scura surround sound it was the best listening experience. Was like being in a comfy chair in the middle of the stage while they played Hotel California. Never heard music that good since, at least not in a car
I agree, the Metallica DVD-Audio is awesome. Unfortunately, I never got the Eagles one. I do have the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds", Roy Orbison's "Black and White Night" and The Doors "LA Woman". All are amazing! My Lexus LC500 is capable of playing some DVD-Audio discs, which was a pleasant surprise.

You can still get a CD player in a Subaru WRX. It's $450 and mounted in the center console. I like the setup in my 2019 Golf. There's a CD player and a SD slot in the glove box. I never use the CD player, but I keep a SD card loaded with several hundred songs in it.

An SD slot in the glove box? That is brilliant! Most cars have a data USB port, so I load up music and audio-books on USB drives to listen in the car. An place to put in an SD drive would be even better, since then I could still use the data USB port for my phone.

Unfortunately, a quick Google search shows that SD card slots in cars are usually used for recording dash-cam video. Does anyone know if they can be used for both recording video and music playback?

VW used one of the SD slots for the nav system info.
