The Garage (What did you work on today?)

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
But it’s an objectively better screw with an objectively better driver. The real problem is that we still have PH screws and drivers at all.

For brakes, the problem is that they don’t remove the screw once everything is mounted, centered, and known to be right at the factory. That screw isn’t strictly necessary after that. You don’t have to leave it in once you’ve installed your new rotors.
If I take it out I put it back, but that makes total sense.

I eventually used a flat drift punch and a hammer on the area around them to loosen them up and they came right out.

Next time they go in the scrap pile. lol

The GX stepped up to 33” Pizza Cutters today from a worn out set of 31”s.

33X10.50R17 Kenda Klever RTs look 🤌🏽 with 0mm offset TRD wheels.

Rubs a bit at full lock. Will bust out the heat gun and start massaging the inner fender liners and smash the pinch weld down tomorrow if weather permits.

Looks great!
Thank you sir.

Needs wax and ceramic coat in a bad way. Fender flares have fading clear coat. Also that whoopsie on the passenger side rear.

Have a set of steel skid plates I also need to install.

I’ve really been neglecting this thing. I swore it would keep it stock and that only lasted 4 years 😆

Eventually it will end up with portals and 37” and my Scout will tow it to the local offroad park for weekend shenanigans.

Once the oldest is ready to drive it will be his, and I will probably put it back on smaller tires.

That's a good looking ride. I like the ride height.
Appreciate it man.

It took a long time for me to learn that downtravel is a lot more useful than uptravel in the slow stuff. Kept the Bilsteins coilovers adjusted pretty low as well as the rear bags.

I can still raise the rear 1.5” if I need a little extra height and drop it 1” with the factory air ride system.

Some long travel bags from Australia are probably in my future.

Alright last post for me for a little bit. I haven’t been outside working on things for a while and I feel it.

Took the front tires off, trimmed some of the plastic fender liner at the firewall, cut the pinch weld and smashed it flat, and pushed the front of each fender liner in about 3”-4”.

Flexed it out in a nearby ditch to test it out.

Still making slight contact with the body mount at full lock when the suspension is fully compressed. May do a body mount chop since it’s 16 years out of warranty by now.

Now some of you need to get of your butts and do stuff so I can get a break.

I'll take a turn!

It's neither car related nor in my garage (only have a carport here) but I'm building cabinets in my daughter's bedroom. Got more complicated than expected because the amount of floor space in there was a couple of inches too short to lay the sections down and assemble them individually and then set them in place. So instead, they are getting built on the wall. Weekend schedule went out the window fast!

Brother I don’t care if you trimmed your toenails in a hot tub, if it was in your do list and got done it belongs here.

Looks awesome man. I hope she appreciates all your hard work 🙏🏼

Gotta love those unexpected detours that turn a day project into 2 full weekends 😀. Good luck
