We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

Tesla confirms it has given up on its Cybertruck range extender to achieve promised range

Yep, Tesla's lying continues. I still have not received some of the features in the Model S that Elon literally promised to my face back in 2012. While I am addicted to the power of my MXP, it is definitely time to move on.

Wow. That stinks. It’s still so weird to think of trajectory from Teslas being the car that everyone wanted and nobody could afford to the cars that nobody wanted to buy anymore. 😬 A lot changes in 10 years.

It's been a wild ride for sure (15 years and counting now). The thing I keep in mind is that it's not malicious. Elon truly believes that Teslas will drive themselves any day now so why spend money on things like steering column stalks and other driver controls? He also has no filter so he promises stuff and then his poor engineers have to figure out how to make it work.

Here is a perfect example. The original Model S models used a Bosch rain sensor for the automatic wipers. This is a $5 commodity part used by literally everyone that has rain sensing wipers. Elon looked at that one day and said, we have 3 cameras looking through the windshield, those should be able to tell if the windshield is wet and trigger the wipers. This makes sense intuitively but is actually quite difficult. That happened in 2016. The auto wipers were finally usable in 2022. But did they wait to remove the dedicated sensor until the new software worked? Heck no. We just had crappy auto-wipers for 6 years. Elon is wicked smart, but he's a software engineer, not a real engineer. :p

The same can be said for Tesla's approach to self driving. Elon thinks that because humans can drive with 2 cameras and a brain, that a car can drive itself with cameras and an (AI) brain. Once again it turns out to be a lot harder than that. I do not think Tesla will EVER attain Level 3 autonomy with only vision. They will be forced to add other sensor packages to make it work reliably.

While Elon was critical for getting Tesla through the early days, he should have hired a proper CEO back in 2016 or so and then served as chief evangelist/dreamer. Since buying Twitter and getting involved in politics it's only gotten worse - he is not minding the store but everyone at Tesla is used to needing Elon's approval for everything so they've become paralyzed. There's still a lot of goodness there so I don't see them going away any time soon but I do expect them to spend some time in the wilderness before they get back on track. Which honestly is good for the rest of the industry. There are plenty of Tesla lifers like me that are now open to other manufacturers.

It’s a great looking small SUV. It’s Stella it’s unfortunately but it’s a good looking vehicle
Don't know how they are today but I bought a TJ brand new in '97 and it was perfect. The only thing I had to do was change fluids and put in a clutch (I abused it by driving around San Francisco, towing my motorcycle trailer, and driving on the Rubicon and other trails with poor technique so I can't fault Jeep for that). We currently have an '07 Diesel WK as our farm vehicle and it has also been bulletproof (Mercedes engine and transmission of course). My wife had a YJ when she was 16 ('87 model, first year of the YJ) and that things was a piece of junk (engine and transmission problems). But it had evidence of being abused before she bought it so can't fully fault Jeep for that one.

All in all, I wonder how many people buy a Jeep but really should buy a Honda or Toyota. Jeeps were never low maintenance vehicles. You need to be in there changing fluids (ALL of them - diffs, transfer case, transmission, coolant, engine oil...) on a regular basis, checking for torn u joint boots, greasing bearings, all that stuff.

Bingo. Lot's of folks buy enthusiast vehicles and do not maintain them properly. That is a good thing about EVs. Very low maintenance.
 
Of course they will. When you unite as a whole to be a world leader at things the funding and support are available. Imagine being the first county to say “we’re done with fossil fuels”. Now if only Tony Stark could mass produce that arc reactor -hmmmmm!
If it happens in our life time, I suspect it will be a Nordic country.

Agree. It’s topless lifestyle. And most people I know who have them know what the are getting into. He’ll-I knew it with the Bronco but my dad wasn’t a car guy and I was and wanted my daughter to have a fun car when young because she loves driving. And 18 months later got rid of Bronco for a Honda 🤣

We had no idea what we were getting into when we bought our Wrangler. The salesman said oh Jeeps have terrible problems and we have this unlimited lifetime warranty and thankfully we bought it. It wasn’t cheap but they will literally put in a new engine for $100 as long as we own her. I have had a few pricy repairs but it’s really been a good car the last 12 years and with the warranty I’m trying to convince my son to keep her. I asked what happens if the repair is more expensive than the value of the car. They let you keep the car, write you a check for blue book and they are just done with you so there’s really no downside to keeping her.
