Hoping for a simple option - will pay extra!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Right now my daily driver is a 2017 Toyota Tundra SR5. I expect to be looking for my next vehicle about the time the scout comes out, and I love the styling, history, and the fact that it's an EV. That said, I drive a number of newer vehicles - either family's or work-rentals, and there are a number of modern features I could... do without. My wife just replaced her 2019 Subaru Outback, which I called "grandma Subaru" because it never stopped clucking and shrieking at me. My SR5 is perfect except for the gas engine.

I'd pay extra for a Scout Terra Package with:
  • standard (non-adaptive) cruise control
  • No shrieking alarms when I back close to an object. (It's a truck and I'm loading or unloading or need the room - I get close to things)
  • "warmer/colder" climate control instead of setting it to a temperature that it never reaches
  • smaller display screen
  • Never tell me there are other cars on the road or where the lanes are
You can call it the "weird old guy" package and charge $3500 for it.

Any "defeaturing" you'd pay extra for?

Welcome to the community! That’s an interesting take. Pay more for less.
lol, I understand it's seen as strange, but I really believe those first four features are just broken. My family is a road-tripping family and put thousands of miles on all at once, and I've found little value in those more recent vehicle features when we're on the road for a long time. I have long winded rants about each of them that my wife is tired of hearing, so it's worth a little extra to us for me to shut up! :D

Maybe some of that could be accomplished in a profile that is set. I know there’s thing we can turn off in our Supra like that chime that goes off if you go more than 5 miles over the speed limit. We turned that off. It was so annoying. They could have a “weird old guy” setting per se.

Sounds like you've experienced poor implementations of features & tech. Some of those features are related to safety. Safety sells vehicles. That said, with a modern U/I and configuration options, you can usually do things like eliminate or reduce sounds, turn on or off proximity sensing, etc. I would try to keep an open mind, or try to get a test ride in a Rivian (since Scout will be able to take advantage of that tech through their SW and Zonal architecture partnership). That likely be the closest representation of what it might be like to sit inside the cabin of a Scout, or drive a Scout (without actually sitting in or driving a Scout)

Brings up a good point I just thought of. When my wife’s Kia sorento backs up it makes a loud beep like a box truck. Tesla makes a whirr noise which is fine. Hopefully the scout does not beep when backing up since it’s a large ev?

Also, it's not all about the driver's safety, but also the safety of others around the driver. Yes, it's great to be able to turn off the warnings when I'm backing up at the ranch. But if I'm backing up in a parking lot, I want to be warned if a kid or a dog has run out behind me and none of my visual indicators is showing them. I want those sonar sensors and warnings in my vehicles. If manufacturers insist on building massive tanks, they need to also protect the people around us with sensors and warnings.

Yes, exactly. With so many walking through parking lots looking at their phones instead of their surroundings they’ll walk directly behind you without paying attention while you are backing up so I definitely love the alerts.

Agreed. Even simple things like an overhead 360 view (using the cameras) when parking to help you quickly get centered into a space, or see how close you are to a bumper when parallel parking are taken for granted. The other thing to keep in mind is that our kids will grow up with all this tech. Sure, they learn to drive with mirrors and not being overly dependent on tech, but they take drivers tests in their own vehicles and they get used to the tech to help them. You will not see OEM's scrapping tech that helps protect their vehicles (and the vehicles of others). Let alone other people that you may encounter on the sidewalk, crossing the road or cycling. HOW the tech is implemented is an important consideration. I do hear lots of people complaining about poorly implemented tech under certain brands. I don't think that will be a concern with Scout.

I think it would be better (or more realistic?) to ask for personal customization for this stuff. This is, have all the computer features you mention be settings you can configure. Your setting would be saved in a profile you select when you start the truck. That way, all the stuff you don't want is turned off when you select your profile but is still available for other drivers. Your main ask should be that you only have to set it once, and the settings are saved so you don't have to navigate a bunch of on-screen menus to turn stuff off each time you start the truck.

This won't help with the cloth seats, at least not with current technology. :p

Yup. I’m not so interested in my car driving for me, but I definitely want it to keep me from hurting someone else, and to keep me from getting hurt. And third to keep me from getting dents or paint scratches 😋

I drive a Sportage PHEV and I believe you can turn off the reverse warning beep in the (infinite) settings menu. I love the reverse camera and hope the Scout implements it as well.
