Traveler or Terra for Road Trips/Daily

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I am sure somewhere in one of these many different threads this might have been discussed. However, I am curious to see which vehicle most would pick for their daily commutes and longer road trips. Especially folks from the Scout Motors team. I'd imagine most are inclined to go with the Traveler since that is technically the revival of the Original Scout. Jamie@ScoutMotors What did you and some of your team pick and why?
I am torn between the 2. Reserved a Traveler. Although I may switch it to the Terra and get rid of my F150. Or I just keep that and get the Traveler? Decisions...decisions. I am interested in knowing why some of the community picked either vehicle!

We won’t get rid of our F-150 Lightning until it’s just not possible to drive it anymore (probably >300,000 miles and >15 years from now) unless there’s a super compelling reason.

If the Traveler BEV is affordable for us, we may replace our Mustang Mach-E with the Traveler.

Then we’ll see which is a better road trip vehicle: The Lightning or the Traveler. I have no idea which will be.
The Traveler would be a better daily driver for us simply because it would be slightly smaller than the Lightning.

It really depends on you and what you need. Personally the BEV Terra is perfect, I need a truck for projects and moving things, add a frunk and tonneau cover and I can travel with friends and still bring everything we need, then after I can load the bed with project supplies and move from them from place to place, while being plenty capable of traveling for my day job. I’ve always preferred pickups anyways, add the in bed power for worksite needs, which the traveler might also have, but in the cargo area instead of already outside of the cab, and for me the Terra just makes sense especially if it can come in under $90k (a fully loaded SilveradoEV trail boss max) once equipped with options

Im equally torn, but dumber than you because I reserved BOTH! lol

I want a truck to haul dirt bikes and do Home Depot runs, but the 5.5ft bed would (possibly) only fit one bike with the tailgate closed. The Terra will be less capable Offroad so that is also a consideration. Its towing capacity is going to be significantly higher than the Traveler though.

So I am also considering the Traveler and using an enclosed trailer when I need to do truck things. This would be more expensive but it would be easier to park the shorter Traveler when I am not pulling a trailer.

It would also be nicer to sleep inside the back of the Traveler in a pinch and offers more security in the city.

So many pros and cons to both. We will be completely debt free at the end of this year aside from our mortgage so we may end up discussing buying both in 2027.

Would prefer to drive both before I decide but I dont think that will be possible unless Jamie hooks me up next time they swing through DFW with some demo/press vehicles.

Oh just buy both.

I've had trucks and SUVs in the past, and the ONLY reason I'd buy a truck over a full-size SUV is if I needed to tow heavy stuff often. I've got the space for storing it, but having an SUV with a small trailer (5x8 to 6x12 range) has been a much better solution for me. I used my trucks like trucks and the beds were usually dirty, so I'd never store daily stuff in the back, even with a cover. Ultimately, that left the back seats which was never enough space. Even adding in a frunk, and the space wouldn't be enough. In the SUV though, I have plenty of enclosed space and whenever I need to haul something larger or dirtier, I just hook up a trailer. With truck beds being so small nowadays, especially if equipped with some kind of cover, they just don't make much sense in my life. Now I've probably got a 500k+ miles under my belt with a trailer behind me, so towing one is no big deal (unless it was an EV traveling distances, which complicates the issue). That brings up the towing limits though... I'm used to 5k in my current SUV and it really isn't enough for many of my needs. 7,500lbs towing would be much preferred.

Even though I’m retired and most of my miles are around town, I occasionally need want a pickup for project things. I’m torn between BEV & EREV.
Well I’m sure if you give a rundown of your use case there are all kinds of people on here who will have plenty of opinions as to what you should purchase.

SUV. I’ve learned I have friends and neighbors always willing to lend their pick ups in the rare case I need to use one. And in a real pinch-I can spend $50 and rent a pick up from Home Depot for 2 hours or $75-$100 for a full day. Otherwise SUVs make the most sense for me 95% of the time
Same. Plus with weather if I’m hauling stuff around I need it covered and I have fit some pretty large things in the Wrangler and the Traveler is bigger. I’m just bit a truck person but I’m glad they have both.

This is my thinking as well. We have a small Maverick Hybrid pickup for most small jobs. But, when I have a big or messy job I turn to Home Depot renting.

We reserved both the Terra and Traveler, both EREV. I’m torn though, I think I will switch the Terra to BEV, it will be my daily driver and range isn’t an issue.
I have reserved both as well. I had originally reserved the EREV Traveler, but also range isn't an issue for my use case, so it doesn't make any sense for the extra cost, complexity and maintenance. We rented a BEV last summer and that confirmed that BEV was right for me. Then I reserved a Terra because my wife liked the BEV experience as well, so I didn't want her to "steal" mine. ;) It is likely we'll be a 2 BEV Scout family.

I am 100% in for the Scout Terra pickup truck. But, that is because I already have a small BEV SUV (HI5 - Hyundai Ioniq 5) which I intend to keep after purchasing the Scout Terra. If something happens to my HI5 I might reconsider getting the Traveler, but probably not.

I regularly need to haul trash to the dump, and I refuse to put trash inside a vehicle again. I have been using a trailer for years, which works fine for now. But, since I don't have a garage, the trailer is a pain to hook up in the winter time. Having a pickup truck would make things so much easier for dump runs as well as hauling materials home from the BORG (Big Orange Retail Giant). I owned a full sized pickup years ago and loved it, but ended up getting rid of it when gas costs got too high.
