Traveler Liftgate lighting

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

This came up in another thread, but wanted to post it here, just for visibility.

I'd love a light (or two) tucked into the edge of the liftgate, for use to illuminate the area both under the liftgate, and the surrounding area while the liftgate is open. Nothing crazy, just some small lights, tucked under the edge of the liftgate, putting out ~50-200- 500 lumens or so of very floody output. Bonus points for adjustable brightness.

Basically, the mental image I've got is an armytec headlamp or fews worth of output, stuck on the edge, illuminating more of the area while you're loading up camp, than you would usually get with the cargo light alone.

So, I've taken the time to prototype this mental image. Enjoy.

Separately, I've mentioned multiple times, something like perimeter lighting for the "I just rolled into camp well after dark and now have to unload all this gear without tripping all over", or the "the sun doesn't come up for another few hours because its the dark of winter, but its time to get going", but this seemed like a different use case.

Also, seriously, being able to adjust lighting of the vehicle while in camping mode, would be great too. How many times have you opened up a vehicle door while camping and have been blinded by the light? Maybe thats just a me problem though :/.

    Cheers!

I’ve had similar thoughts but I was more of a perimeter LED “rope” light. Then was thinking maybe it is color changing for dark sky initiatives or even color changing like jukebox if at the beach or have kids and you want some entertainment. Or favorite team’s color during an evening tailgate

Definitely hoping for down facing area lighting under the rear lift gate please. I would like to see this under the frunk hood too. Maybe even slightly adjustable to focus on a specific area you need more light, kind of like an airplane seat reading light.

I absolutely agree and love this idea. More is better as long as you can dim and turn off as well.

I'd love a legit amber LED color since it's outside of the spectrum of bugs' eyes. Great for camping so you're not attracting the wrong crowd. I recessed some amber flood-pattern LEDs under the aluminum railing around my rear deck, and the light is soft so you can see where you're going, attracts zero bugs, but doesn't detract from the views of the sky.

    Also a great idea!
