Terra - Roof Top Option

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
The best company for allowing many options is Porsche and its part of VW group so you can hope, but most US companies like to do large packages so make easier for dealers.
Porsche does do well with that but it is a top tier car company so I’m assuming every buyer is paying a premium to offer those individual items. Can’t imagine how many parts they need to carry since the 718 has like 20 interior color components

Even Porsche has some odd dependencies, like if I try to add hud then I have to upgrade to leather seats, or something like that

I'm not sure I'm sold on the cabana roof (I'm all in as long as it doesn't mean loud wind noise), but I am more of an open air person than a window person. I'd rather the cabana roof (so long as it's not louder) or a sun roof over a glass top.

Welcome to the community.

What would be best is if we have the opportunity to test drive different options such as roof variations and since noise is critical for you, it would be helpful to have a highway nearby.

I really liked the glass rooftop on my Rivian until it cracked. Luckily, insurance covered the $2,300 repair, but it was still a pain to get it replaced. For this reason, I would not be interested in a glass.

I am still praying I can opt for a solid roof with all the offroad fixin's

The glass roof is really beautiful in the photos though.

Maybe some of yall can convince me to get that over the solid roof.

My daily driver has a sunroof (that still works flawlessly) thats over 20 years old.

My main concern is weather, and this thing has survived quiet a few hail storms.

But I am not a really smart dude.

SO, can some of you nerds help me out?

Would a smaller sunroof be stronger than a full glass roof?

In my mind a smaller piece of glass is harder to break, but would the larger one help spread out the energy of an impact and be stronger?

The larger will be laminated, no differently than other car glass but I suspect, if like building materials the large piece will be thicker and heavier whereas a sunroof, due to weight and moving would not be as thick so I’d say that would be a pro. And a sunroof has a lot of sealed gaps due to moving parts so way more opportunity to leak over time. If roof glass panel is installed like windshields that black goo they use is serious stuff.
