Slide In Camper Ready

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Will the Terra be ready for slide in campers? Other current EV trucks are either silent or specifically state that their EV trucks are not recommended for slide in campers. There's a huge market for this capability. There's a lot of discussions about toppers and towing but not much about slide ins. I'm really hoping that Scout will make this a feature cause that's why I've got a Terra reservation otherwise would've bought a R1T already (or any other truck EVs). With a ladder frame this should be very possible for payload.

My hunch is they aren’t set up generally due to liabilities but not getting g a Terra so won’t matter to me but I wish you luck along with the camping crowd so people can enjoy them to their fullest

While I understand there will be interest, I think the market is limited for slide in campers designed for 1/2 ton trucks with 5.5' beds. That said, I would still be tempted to do a UTE tray and canopy on a Terra (well more tempted if it was a 6.5' bed).

That said, depending on dimensions. I suspect removing the rear seats of the Traveler will get me what I want easier. I can keep mentioning the UTE tray, and maybe Scout could do it - but I am not holding my breath.

I've had a brief convo with Scout campers about their Tuktuk camper which is designed for 5' beds. https://scoutcampers.com/hard-wall/tuktut/. They are willing to see if it will work on R1T but I wasn't going to buy a R1T just to find out it doesn't work. The Tuktuk was design for 5 ft beds like Tacomas, Rangers etc and very popular where I live. Lots of midsize trucks with campers in my area. Key issue with R1T was the 4.5' bed and the camper's weight center relative to rear axle alignment. Hoping the Terra's 5.5' bed allows at least 50% of camper weight to be ahead of the rear axle.

TFL did a series a while back with their lightning and going to Alaska. They outfitted the Lightning with a camper, even though I believe Ford said not to. Anyway, it’s a pretty fun series to watch, and it might give you some ideas.

Episode #1

Watched and skimmed a bit of the series. Mostly 2/3 of the time charging at level 2, with slow driving (30mph) between to manage to get 2 miles per kwh. That said, even getting 2 miles per kwh is not bad considering they did have a camper on top and were at max weight on the vehicle.

The TFL video is a topper setup not a slide in camper setup. Toppers sit on top of the box not on the bed so they are attached differently and have weight distribution considerations.

Would love the Terra to consider slide in campers like anchor points, optional air suspension (self leveling), lift kits, ground cameras etc.

They can even go all out with box wall access for aftermarket designers to use that space for options like water reservoirs (fresh, gray, black), storage, etc.
