Popular Common Builds?

Hello All!

@Jamie@ScoutMotors posted yesterday some more information about what to expect for the first Scout builds.

One line in particular caught my attention.

“Couple of common builds we expect to be popular”.

Since the SM team is working on the common builds figured the community’s input could be helpful.

So what do you all think. What would the common builds be that we would expect at launch?

Jamie: Sorry, missed this one. Exact builds when we start production are still being determined. Anytime a manufacturer spools up a brand-new factory and a brand-new vehicle (rare, actually), things start slow and simple. Not all models and trims will be available right away, but over time everything will come online at the factory. We announced that we're starting with Traveler first, but beyond that, nothing official yet. Our teams are trying to put together a couple of common builds we expect to be popular to start with, to ease into building a new vehicle on a new production line with new suppliers. We will have much more as we get closer to production. But yes, the production line can support both EREV and BEV models. We have been testing early test mules for well over a year now, and things are moving along nicely.

My guess (without naming them):

• A street-friendly / most energy-efficient build
• The Mountain side build already shown
• A sporty build (larger tires/rims, etc.) slightly less energy efficient
• A trail-like build (18" rims BFG A/T tires or similar) maybe similar efficiency to the sport build
• The trail-ready build already shown (probably least efficient)

Obviously each of the builds could be BEV/EREV, and if they offer different battery choices; regular or long-range.

I think their market research with every other competitor will be the primary factor. As is clear-we all have ideas of what we want and it’s a lot of variation so their big spreadsheet will tell them what things need to be

Oh I wonder if we will have a forum special so to speak. Where the ideas on the forum intersect the most and it’s offered to forum members first.

A couple questions I have are:

I think they will be shooting themselves in the foot if they don’t. Just seems some things would be very easy and I guess with what is probably close to 200,000 reservations they know there will be others in line. Can only hope what I want is a configuration they make available

They can modify the reservation system to give themselves an idea of demand. Right now I know it separates out Traveler/Terra and EREV/BEV.

It seems to me that bench vs bucket should not be a huge issue. Different roof tops is far more structural. That said, I would be shocked if mostly fully loaded is not included in the primary initial release version. Fully loaded versions have the most profit margin. Early adopters probably tend to have more discretionary income (less budget buyers). Not offering mostly loaded versions out of the gate would just be leaving money on the table.

I am using the word mostly loaded - as fully loaded might include options that are not ready for retail on release date. Using the Cybertruck as an example - the Beast was an initial release, but those buyers could not include the promised extended battery option (which I don't think ever got produced). Likewise, aftermarket options such as the camper shell were not ready for market at release time.

I would agree with this. I would also hope they set things up so if a factory winch isn’t fully finished or offered, it could be added after the fact very (reasonably) easy. But something like the glass and cabana roofs almost have to be offered up front. To your point-great profit opportunity and they’ve focused on those non stop. To only offer a solid steel roof would Eve a let down for many as it relates to a fairly loaded vehicle

Honestly, that is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. I don't want a glass roof and have always been forced into one to get other options that I did want. It is almost impossible to get a mostly loaded vehicle without being forced into glass in the roof. With my F250, I was basically told I would have to wait months and pay a few thousand more to get the glass roof deleted. And that stupid glass roof got shattered in a hail storm - $3k replacement. Afraid to open it, as it has also destroyed the tracks once already (another $2k repair). Basically, I keep the shade closed and try to avoid thinking about its existence. My F250 has been virtually repair free other than that glass roof I did not want in the first place.

I’m hoping the roof type and front seat type are completely independent options not tied to any packages.

I don’t get the allure of the bench seat. Maybe it’s just me, but I want quality captain seats up front. At 6’8” I’m just hoping I fit in the new Scout!
