Marketing IDIOTS

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
As mentioned, the Bravada was a rebadged Blazer/Jimmy. Full time AWD rather than selectable 4wd. Pretty sweet digital dash. I was fortunate as a teenager to get my parent's when they got something newer. Ours was all maroon. As in everything. Interior, exterior, everything. It was incredibly comfortable despite the color. 10 hour drive to college and never had an ache. Unfortunately it became a little less reliable than we would have liked and I bought the Explorer. Even at 20 years old, my back would start giving me issues before 10 hours was up.

At some point, I put a 6 disk cd changer in the arm rest of the Bravada. It sent out a signal over FM. My best friend from growing up went to a different college, but also in FL and he would follow close enough to pick up the signal from my player. I'd play dj.

Love it. After my first driver (the scout II traveler) we got my dads ‘79 Buick leave (with white landau roof) but everything was that same but funding color. But the seats were velour 😀

I don't think going EV is necessarily excluding 90% of the market. EV's currently have a fairly good percentage penetration into the car market - even in the USA. What they lack is penetration into the full sized truck and SUV market. But it is a bit early to say if that is because that market hates EV's, or just that that market has not been successfully marketed to. Rivian is not quite full sized, and looks like an EV. The Hummer EV is oversized. and virtually priced outside the market as well. To me, the Scout Traveler is the first serious attempt by anyone to address the full sized SUV market with an EV. How it fairs will have long term market implications.

As for electric full sized pickups - well that has been tried (and essentially failed). Ford shot themselves in the foot with their effort. The dealers did not want to sell them, then when they were forced to inventory them they put a prohibitive up charge on them for "market demand". I don't think the limited market ever got over that. Plus, it simply did not "look" like the trucks that were popular - they made it into an urban truck, and that is not really what was selling anyway. Chevy did a little better, but again its price and looks did it no favors. The secondary problem with EV trucks is people want to believe they can tow with their trucks. Sure, most don't, or at least don't often. But 100 towing range is a joke. It makes a full sized EV truck a hard sell.

Going with an EV, means you just cut out about 90% of your potential customer base with that one decision. Anyone who has ever been really off road would NEVER take an EV off road.

Sometimes Marketing people come up with terrible, ludicrous ideas and then make horrible decisions that sink new companies very quickly.
I have seen that dozens of times before. Did you do any potential customer panels to find out what the AVERAGE SUV buyer will buy? Or fans of the old Scouts, or offroaders?

You don't have to look very hard to find the marketing failures.

Basically you are going to sell a TESLA that looks like an old Scout. Good luck because you are going to need it. I do not know anyone who would buy one.
Well welcome to the community first off, and second you couldn't be more wrong. Ever heard of Rivian? There are several of us on here that own them, use them like they're intended and I personally take mine off-road a lot. Furthermore, if you take a quick trip to Youtube and search Rivian off-road and you will find a large amount of content on purpose built overlanding rigs. Like Rivian these Scout models are going to be wildly capable, in fact, from what they have shown so far, they will be even more so than the Rivian's.

But also, did you completely miss the fact that there is a gas motor in the Harvester model? Yes, you heard that correctly, your precious favorite fossil fuel will still be needed because there will be a gas motor that will recharge the battery. It's called an EREV an extended range electric vehicle so before you go jumping off a cliff maybe invest some time in some research of the modern world and see whats really happening. I've been an EV owner for going on 6 years now and I will never own another ICE vehicle. The advantages of EV ownership are far exceed that you get with a gas vehicle.

I will absolutely be leaving Rivian for the full EV Scout Traveler and I plan to use it just like I did my Rivian, because there are few things in offroading as rewarding as reaching a peak and seeing all the looks on the Jeeper's faces and have them ask "how did you get that up here" :ROFLMAO:Offroading in an EV is the best, and its really serene experience to be on the trail and here nothing but the tires going over rocks, the breaking of branches, or the best driving next to a rushing river and hearing all that wonderful sound. Dont knock it til you try it.

Side note: I love how this forum goes from one extreme to the next, but going on a topic shift talking about a Brevada was definitely not on my bingo card haha!
