Launch Edition

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Happy New Year! Seeing the news about the R2 and how they are expected the launch edition to be more than the $45k starting price figured I would start a poll.

I do hope SM does an official one as well.

So what do we think. How much do you think a launch edition Scout should cost. The starting price for the Traveler and Terra is within $2,000 of each other so I don’t think we need separate polls. If you all don’t agree we can make one for each.

And any launch info you want to specify feel free.

PRODUCTION STARTS NEXT YEAR!!

I think $85 and up is too vague. I’m guessing $82-$85K

+ Something to designate "Launch Edition"
- Special stripes?
- Special rims?
- Special color... :)

Just something to differentiate from later production models...

I'm going for an "everything you need, nothing you don't approach with this car which means no loaded up Launch Edition and I'll be closer to the lower end of the price range. If they go the Launch Edition route and push the rest of us to the back of the line then I'm probably looking at a 2029 delivery window which makes me sad.

IDEA: Early/ranked forum members get a heavy discount on Launch package as a thank you for loyalty. Scout writes it off as marketing expense because they know we're the most outspoken on the brand here and in other forums/media. Everybody is happy.

Hey it never hurts to ask right. You never know when the answer will be yes!

Anyone with a first-generation new Scout will automatically become a default ambassador for the brand.

The questions you will get when these trucks hit the roads and trails will be non-stop. It's not bad answering all the questions you get - I took it upon myself to help educate people (many of whom had a reservation for a Rivian and wanted to know my thoughts). The referral program from Rivian could be emulated easily (or something similar) by Scout straight out of the gate. Rivian launched its referral program after I helped them sell 20 or 30 trucks. LOL.

I really expect these to be $85k or thereabouts, with how I suspect they'll be optioned (it seems most new vehicles like this get the high end trims out first). And this makes sense, especially with how volume at new factories/for new models scales. Start with the high end stuff with lower volume, then scale down as you have the ability.

But, I also sort of hope they do something sort of like what Rivian ended up doing (which was sort of accidental). But they had a price point, got a bunch of reservations, and then hiked the prices. That got everyone angry, so they kept the lower price for the people who had pre-ordered at the lower price point.

I don't "expect" a discount for being on the forums, but, it would be a nice gesture.

My question is not what you would expect, but what you want the launch trim to cost.

I’d expect a launch/first edition to be very well equipped but come in just under $80k then with accessories (tool box, backpack, full size spare) or available options (cabana, glass, solid roof for example) topping out around $87k

What about something like this for a discount program. They offer a small discount or a free something the quicker you convert your reservation to an order. Even if it was $500 to $1000 if you convert in the 15 days and then It drops down to $250 to $500 if you convert in 30 days.

Oh by the way I have a question. When you convert your reservation to an order do you have to leave a deposit of any kind or fill out any kind of paperwork like you would at a dealer?

Want?

Is free an option?

:P

To be honest, the lower price end of the spectrum was close to my theoretical max at the time. We will have to see what things look like. But a $500-1000 discount or some tiny upgrade probably wouldn't make me convert the reservation into a order if things are above a certain price point. And that price point while a bit wish-washy on my end, sort of depends on the value you're getting.

Ie, bare bones and $80k, nope.

Like the concepts ahve shown, for $65-70k? hmmm now we're getting interesting.

Personally, I’d prefer to see a Launch Edition limited to the first N reservation holders and that it sell at a lower price than the eventual market price. Scout has the opportunity to turn the overpriced automobile nonsense on its head.

I don’t know what the best way to do it would be, but here’s an idea.

Offer a one-time-per-address $10k-$15k discount to all reservation holders as of ____, ____, 2025 with a contract that if the buyer doesn’t maintain ownership and have the vehicle registered in their name/business name for at least one year from the date of sale, they will not be sold another vehicle for two years from the date they sell/give away/unregister their vehicle. There would be provisions for manufacturer buybacks, totaled vehicles, etc. The buyer could only get the discount for one vehicle.

I believe some other company tried this, but I don’t think they gave any real incentive and it didn’t work.

Tesla tried to do "don't resell it within a year" thing with the Cybertruck, during that brief moment when used ones were worth a lot.

AFAIK, it... might have worked... some? But we still saw it happening.

But yeah, if we got $15000 off because of an early reservation + $5000 off because of useful forum feedback (hey, while we're dreaming right??? :D), then I'm MUCH more likely to jump in early.

Although I have no plans on selling soon. I've had my jeep for almost 20 years. I'd expect to do similar for the Scout.
