Is there anything that would make you switch from the BEV to the EREV?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Hello peeps! I posed the question in the reverse (EREV TO BEV). Now let’s ask it this way. Is there anything that would make you switch from the BEV to the EREV.

For me, the only things would be if SM flat out said they weren’t building the BEV anymore (I don’t see that happening) or the range wasn’t anywhere close to what they anticipated. Short of those two things I’m all in on the BEV.

How about everyone else?

I have the Harvester resevered for both Terra and Traveler. I have bigger aspirations for traveling using the Terra (camping/long trips) as the Traveler will be used for daily commutes and shorter weekend trips. When the time comes to do the build and price, I will likely eliminate the Traveler Harvester option as 350miles is ample for the intended purposes. I really should rent an EV for a week and get to know what it's like to live with an EV for a week and perhaps my opinion would change. Or better yet, maybe plan a long trip using an EV.

Not for me, I don't want the hassle of maintaining the Harvester and losing EV range in the process. I've done 1,000+ mile road trips in my EV so I have no worries on range. If Scout decided to only make the EREV and not the BEV then I would just cancel my order and look for something elsewhere.

Honestly the biggest thing that would make me consider switching is if my future house had a dedicated solar panel system or the ability to add a L2 charger (or really any dedicated wall charger that could give me 40+ Amps) .

Currently my fiance and I are renting and for the next 4-5 years it won't be feasible to do anything but a slow 240V charger. Additionally, my daily commute is 30 miles per day. So truthfully all I want is to have 50 miles of EV range and then the ability to charge once at the Wally's on my way to my parents house in Chicago.

If Scout canceled the BEV, I’d cancel my reservation.

There’s only negative value in a gas-fed vehicle for me.

I’ve been all over the western US—where fast charging stations are not nearly as densely-packed as in the east—and have had fewer issues finding “fuel” for our EVs than when we drove gas vehicles. These trips range from a few hundred miles one-way to a few thousand miles round-trip. After >75,000 miles, I’m 100% all-in on BEVs. You couldn’t pay me enough to go back (unless I could spend that money on an EV and just park the gas vehicle).

We lived with Level 1 charging for about a year before I got around to installing our Level 2 charger. I don’t even know where the local DCFC stations are. I believe we have three or so DCFC charging stations in town, but I’d have to pull up Plugshare to find them.

Honestly, nothing. I would either find a different BEV vehicle or go with a more traditional plug-in hybrid.

85% of my use case would probably be all electric on a 30ish mile range plug-in hybrid, charging at home. I’d rather go with a more established technology setup than the Harvester if I’m putting gas in a vehicle at all.

I'd cancel without the pure BEV option.

It would be very hard to go back to putting gas in a truck. Would seem like taking a big step backwards at this point for me (that's with ~55K+ miles on my R1T).

I would likely just wait for a 3rd Gen R1T. My hope would be that the Gen 3 R1T would be improved with a rear slider window, a bit more range by the time the Gen3 drops, and a slightly longer bed length. The slider window could go side-to-side / left-to-right, or have an aperture / opening (if the gear tunnel posed any problems dropping down). Those are pretty much the reasons why I reserved the Scout in the first place, along with a bit more "ruggedized" & heritage appeal.
