Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I think too many people are looking at the Slate wrong. Or are just looking for a reason to tear it down for some reason. It is a small inexpensive electric truck that will be fun to own and drive. Why can't people just appreciate that?

Here is just some of the criticism I have seen that I find ridiculous:
  • It is too small (yes, I have seen this complaint multiple times )
  • It only has 150 miles of range (a larger battery is an option)
  • It has roll up windows (power windows are an option)
  • It can't tow X-lbs (how many vehicles this size can tow that much?)
  • It doesn't have AWD (Slate said this was a decision to keep costs down)
  • It doesn't have a radio or speakers (both area available as options)
  • It doesn't have an screen for controls (Slate said this was a decision to keep costs down. You use your phone or a tablet)
Slate has never claimed that it will be as capable as a full sized truck, yet people criticize it because it can't do "truck things". Why? Name another new electric vehicle this size at this price point that can do "big truck things".
I like it especially for what it is. I do not like the Bezos association, but that is another story.

Completely valid argument, and you're right.

Slate has never claimed to be anything but practical and fun. If you want a full size truck...go get one.

If you look at the details, you will find out that Bezos is not involved in Slate. One of his companies participated in the Series A round funding for Slate. I think the article writers keep mentioning his name since it will lead to more clicks. From a Newsweek article (even they include "Bezos" in the article title):

The funding comes from Bezos Expeditions, General Catalyst and TWG Global, among other investors though the amount each firm provided is unconfirmed.

Context is important. I think it's more like the context may be off here (since we're on a Scout forum). I don't see it as "tearing down" - more like apples and oranges.

If this was a Canoo or Alphamotors forum, i bet the responses to the Slate might be different - those are small, inexpensive EV's (not sure that either of those two companies are still kicking though).
