Good Answer. I am a retired LEO and I cringe when I see someone buckling the baby in BEFORE loading the groceries, and start the engine to get the AC going. My cousin does this because she is afraid someone is going to snatch the baby from the cart in the parking lot while she loads the groceries. I Have NEVER seen that occur. On the other hand, I have seen MANY cars stolen with children inside while Mom is at the tailgate.

With toddlers, you have to weigh that against the possibility that they will run into the path of a moving car, but never start the car before you get in.

Eventually this won’t be a worry when everyone has a personal AI robot, lol. That can load the car as the mom or dad is buckling the kid in, then the parent can sit in the driver seat until the robot is done and gets into the car.

We already have 2 AI bots in the world in “controlled environments” Figure AI and Optimus

When little groceries first. When I had 2 little ones I would put them in the car if I was close enough to the cart return.

I did have one time where I accidentally locked the keys in the car when my kids were 3 and a baby. Horrifying. Thankfully my 3 year old wasn’t buckled into his seat yet so we were able to talk him through getting out of his seat and unlocking the door.

That’s why I started wearing my keys on a lanyard around my neck. My kids are 25 and older and I still do that. Ha.

I would like an app for sure where we can unlock and lock the car from our phone.

My keys are on a carabiner hooked to my belt loop. I am paranoid about locking them in the car so I always do a pat down to make sure where they're at before I shut the doors. My tailgate has a button to open/close it on the dashboard so I always use it to close the tailgate once I'm in the car even now.

My kids are requesting comfortable back seats. They are in their 20s now and big guys. So enough height in the back for big people. Comfortable seats. Not just a “jump seat” like my Wrangler has (not sure if that’s the right term). And it would be great if the seats recline some.

Wow, neither of those scenarios ever occurred to me when the kids were little, I would just unload the groceries and then put the kid in the car because that seemed the easier order for me to do things in. The idea of our car being stolen in the grocery store parking lot while I'm right there never crossed me mind and I don't think is much of a thing here.

Anyway, with an EV you can leave it running with the climate control on and no worries about pollution so there's that. We would often get home from running errands and stuff and just leave the EV running in the driveway with the kids asleep in the back seat. I'd sit on the lawn and have a nice drink while they finished their nap in the climate-controlled bubble that is the car. I would never do that in a combustion car but with an EV it was great!

The Scout is supposed to have "Pet Mode", which allows you to leave your pets in the car with climate control on. A message appears on the screen that tells onlookers that the pet is safe and displays the temperature. Great feature if you need to make a dash into the grocery on the way home from the vet.

If it’s working properly, the refrigerant should be contained, not leaking out to the world, so shouldn’t cause any pollution problems.

Only if it leaks. It shouldn't be leaking though, it's supposed to be a sealed unit. If it leaks when in use then it's a problem that needs to be fixed.

Shows what I know: I thought leaking refrigerant was like car puberty, like it’s just something that happens naturally with age. Either that or some mechanics have been lying! I’m going with the latter, maybe?
