FM Radio

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I really don’t listen to FM radio much anymore, but I agree it should be included. You shouldn’t have to pay for a subscription to listen to the radio.

Agreed.

Its been aaaaaages since I listened to FM radio. So much so, I couldn't tell you a single FM radio station in my area, despite living here now for close to a decade.

But a subscription to listen to the radio is beyond dumb.

How much could Rivian have possibly saved by eliminating that? Surely an FM tuner is pennies these days?

Yes, please keep an FM radio. I know AM doesn't work with EVs due to interference but FM is important for those of us that live with severe weather. FM radio is often the best way to get updates, especially if the power is out.
I'll jump on that "I'm old" bandwagon. Who here know what WKRP in Cincinnati is?
Booger!!!!!!

I live in the middle of nowhere - but we have "2" stations that are pretty good. They are 2, with 2 call signs and 2 broadcast towers - but they broadcast the exact same lineup as far as I know (unless perhaps, some very small things change locally - such as advertisements). It is possible that local advertisers may only be willing to pay for their stations ads - but honestly, they are close enough together I don't think it would be worth the stations effort to split the advertising. The only other possible differences are local game broadcasts - but I honestly don't think they have 2 separate game crews to broadcast 2 different games at the same time.

The real funny part - even though they are essentially micro stations with very local programming, they did syndicate one of their programs that is now played all over Texas. I do miss the fact that the owner sold his restaurant/bar though. They do a Texas music program - and were bringing in artists from all around for their syndicated radio show, but they also played a live show while in town. We got some great live shows that a tiny local venue could have never hoped to get on their own - but the carrot of being on a syndicated show across the State (and dozens of stations broadcasting it) brought them in.

I used to be a FM listener when in town until it now has too many ads and many switched to automatic repeating play lists. I really liked XM radio better with my first car with that option back in 2006. It was commercial free, same stations available in all 50 states, and worked in the middle of nowhere with little to no cell/FM coverage out west. Now, XM has way more ads and seems to be less common feature in newer vehicles (XM days are numbered because of improved 5G coverage). I'm still mostly a XM listener and the wifey has switched to internet radio through her iPhone and Bluetooth connection. I'm "assuming" the Scout will have Carplay.

I might have to check into a 5G cellular module or the Starlink option shown on the rear section of the roof rack on the Prototype Traveler for internet access for XM, video streaming, and internet radio streaming.
