From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.
Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.
How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.
Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

I am always surprised that Mitsubishi is still selling passenger vehicles in the US.
does the $25k slate include seats and steering wheel, or do you have to purchase that separately?
Interesting article that definitely throws water on the "but china's cars are so cheap, why can't scout be cheap too" argument (that many of us have already been data-center-level dumping water on for months)
Yeah, but look how many legacy automakers drastically scaled back their EV plans, leaving the remaining markets open for the Chinese. Smoke and mirrors, but it worked and they'll have strong market share in the countries allowing them in.
And in doing so will destroy their domestic manufacturers and make them slaves to China (which has been China's plan all along). We are already screwed due to a lack of rare earth mining and processing capability. I laugh when people talk about going to war with China over Taiwan. We literally can't build weapons without rare earths from China. Do you think they would keep supplying them if we were at war? That war would be over in months as we ran out of weapons.
But I digress. China does not play fair. They should never have been admitted to the WTO. We also need to do everything we can to prevent them coming to America. Now if they want to open factories to build them here, I'm listening.
Occasionally my wife and I watch old reruns of the Price is Right from the Bob Barker era, and it's crazy how much of the furniture used to come from the High Point, NC area (just down the road from me) back in the day. Growing up, it was all tobacco and furniture in these parts. Both are pretty much long gone now, with the latter mostly coming from China. Definitely a case of cutting your nose off to spite your face.
I thought there was a RE mine that was reopened near Las Vegas that was doing well with some of our own government backing...
They've definitely been working to shore up the RE supply chain as well as semi-conductors, drugs, etc, but it's still a work in progress with much more needing to be done. I definitely support the government subsidies to bring some of these critical industries back to the US.
My Ford Flex is classified as a station wagon by my insurance company. I can see it but it’s a very tall wagon
My FJ Cruiser is a station wagon as well! I can't see it at all in my case. Closer to a pregnant roller skate than a station wagon.

I wouldn’t say it has anything to do with playing “fair”, it’s more about playing “smart”; thinking long term, taking advantage of companies eagerness to gain access to chinas huge market, and political unity to work towards goals. We handed over tech and manufacturing to them because we couldn’t see profit happening in the 3 year plan. Now 30 years later we’re gradually waking up to the hole we’ve dug, and still acting like there’s nothing we can do about it. I’m sure if we had someone who could negotiate a good deal, there would be plenty of factories that could be built here, but instead we’ve got state and federal legislators blocking any attempt to do anything with Chinese companies. So they’re going to Canada and Mexico and leaving us in the dust.
Companies like scout, lucid, rivian, and even tesla are the best long term hope for auto manufacturing in the US, I hope they succeed. I just wish they’d give us decent door handles and buttons!
Especially the all important start/stop button
