Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I wonder what crash ratings will be for Slate. Scout I'm not worried about since it will probably be close to Rivian's score. but Slate is iffy, like whats the body panels made of?

Smaller would be good. Hummers are huge. There’s a Hummer pickup in town that has giant offset rims. I mean the tire is barely under the fender. As if it wasn’t wide enough already. It barely fits in the lane.

Polypropylene composites over a steel frame. Slate says it will be 5-star rated.

I like the idea of plastic panels on a car now that vehicle sheet metal is mostly tinfoil wrapped over a structure. No door dings/dents, easy replacement, and it's not like bumpers aren't plastic on 95% of new vehicles anyway. I saw a Saturn the other day ( 😲I know! THE last one still on the roads!) and the body still looked surprisingly new, despite the rest of the car being worn. I'd much prefer a thicker sheet metal body, but that doesn't seem to be an option unless I want to drive a stainless steel dumpster.

Excuse me! I know Bezos just lost a New Glenn but thats a hell of a deposit
For a build deposit like that, I'd actually like to see Scout have a larger non-refundable deposit once we select our build and allow us to spec it in unusual ways instead of the usual 4 shades of gray and three trim levels common on so many other vehicles.

Edit: Note this is for a build deposit, not a reservation deposit.

Oh wait was that $300 for locking down a build itself or was it like our Scout reservation

Okay how much are you expecting for a build deposit on the Scout. I’m thinking earnest money like you would put down on a house. I was thinking $1500 to $2500.

It all depends on whether they mostly do prepackaged options, or if they break the mold and let us do à la carte selections. If they're only prepackaged, I don't expect a deposit as they'd be able to sell my build to any other Tom, Dick or Sally out there. If they let me pick out oddball choices and really personalize my Scout, I'd expect the deposit to top out at $5k or so, depending on how odd the choices are.

In this digital age or both ordering and manufacturing, I'm really hoping for a lot of flexibility in options, so long as the options physically work together. Maybe I want lockers without forcing me into a winch, skidplates and mud tires. Perhaps I want a glass roof without being forced into premium audio. That kind of thing...
