Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I'm not sure what side of the fence I'd be on this, but it would be interesting to see them have an additional $ lock in for your vehicle.

$100 refundable puts you on the list to receive either.
+$500 locks in your choice and reserves your spot in line (moves you ahead of the initial reservations). This would not be refundable (but would credit to your final cost of vehicle).

I came up with this in like 2 minutes so not bound to it logistically or $X!

My understanding is there will be a point in time where we are expected to "lock in" our reservations which will help guide that!
I remember a disclaimer about changing reservation options MAY impact when your vehicle will be produced.

Found it.

My question is is there more of a deposit that needs to be left when you place your order? What did Rivian do in the early days?

Otherwise couldn’t you place an order and not follow through because it’s only $100 you would lose.
Good question. Something like another $100-1,000 but it locks us in on our place in the “real line”

I think a lot of the deposit will depend on how flexible Scout is with selecting options. If most of the options are boring like Rivian, they'd be able to sell your vehicle to the next person in line with the same configuration without taking a financial hit. Hopefully Scout chooses to allow a la carte selections instead of just boring packages, so if some nutjob opted for a PBY Scout with a Sunkist-orange interior and PBY powder-coated wheels, I'd expect Scout to require a notably higher deposit.

Hey now, I haven’t decided what color interior and wheels yet. 😹

Exactly. If we aren’t ready yet or they don’t have options we want just yet we can wait and still keep our reservation.
That's what Rivian did. They weren't producing the configuration I wanted yet, so they bumped my reservation down. They did give me the option to change my preferences to get a vehicle sooner though.

And what I think keeps getting lost here is that SM wants to get our Scouts into our hands as soon as physically possible. There’s nothing nefarious here, but we all need to remember that there was never a plan to deliver a large number of Scouts in 2027. Since reveal it’s been production to begin end of 2027, ramping up in 2028 and years after.

Will some of us on the forum get a delivery in 2027? It’s possible, but 2028 is much more likely and that has nothing to do with any supposed delay. That’s how it always was going to be.
I keep doing mental gymnastics between quicker delivery or better quality. The fun of a low serial number probably wont last as long as the satisfaction of reliability. These are mass production vehicles. They are not collector items, yet. The original Scouts were just rusty old trucks for a long time before they were ever collector items.
