Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Did you see what Jamie posted in response to that post?

I was just replying directly so didn't see that but glad he did, thanks for pointing that out!

The generator kicks in when it needs to. Or when you manually activate it. The goal of the system is always to stay ahead of energy consumption before the battery is depleted. So in normal driving, you would run out of fuel for the engine before you run out of battery. Meaning you can fill the tank with fuel and continue driving. You can also pull over (or camp/boondock) and charge the battery with the gasoline engine as well. You can run the engine while off-roading as well. The system is pretty smart when it is armed with the current load on the electric motors, current, and continued energy consumption, and even the route you may have entered in the nav system. While we have to certify the vehicle for a given EPA cycle test, the range will vary (just like any vehicle) depending on use and conditions. Final tow ratings will come after we complete development and testing. The teams here are trying to maximize as much as possible.
Thanks for providing insight @Jamie@ScoutMotors

Are these the mules? They have no resemblance of really any vehicle i can tell. They don't have the Rivian shape, or VW shapes.

Sorry I have not been staying up to date on this forum. Hope I did not make you repeat your self. I should have searched before I posted.

Agreed. And if you actually look at the fracking industry it really looks like a giant ponzi scheme where they constantly need to open new wells to pay for the old wells. It's a house of cards that will one day come falling down once the market gets spooked enough.
Not really a ponzi scheme - just the nature of production. Depending on how much they choke down a new well - it can easily put out 1/2 of it's lifetime production in the first 3 months. Horizontal wells are very expensive to drill - so a dip in oil prices can turn a boom to a bust overnight. Last I heard, in my play, break even on a well is $78/barrel.

As for natural gas - it is a waste product here. It barely counts towards overall sales from a well, but slows down the extraction of oil. Perhaps if pipelines were built to people who need it for heating, then it would be profitable. Good luck putting in a new high pressure pipeline these days. Not in my backyard is the go term. Plus did not help that the last administration put the brakes on a bunch of LNG plants on the coast that could have shipped that gas. The thought was that preventing shipping (LNG ships) would cut prices to the North East that uses it for heating - but without pipelines... what is the term - Never going to happen.

Honestly, lots of Musk hate here - but at least he is using some of our (S. Texas) excess natural gas. Not good for much else.

The interesting thing is… if you actually spot one of these on the street you will know something special is out running around. The SUV looks like a Highlander rear end and the PU looks like a generic truck rear end.

Yes, those are older mules. They don’t look like Scouts because we aren’t making any Scout sheet metal yet. So they have super basic coverings using anything we can get our hands on. The mechanicals and software are all that matter at this point.

Yeah looks like the shell of another VAG product placed on top of the Scout skateboard. Normal process that sometimes results in pretty gnarly test mules like this one for the original X5.
