Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Read through thoroughly... a-lot of questions are answered, especially how much often federal budget it was raking to keep the programs in place.

Now J, we are still having confidence in Scout to have a model at launch that is close to the starting price they have stated. I’m just continuing with faith and patience.

I should specify. Launch edition yes more expensive. Trims available at launch have a trim that starts at the starting price.
I’m referring to a designated launch version. If SM offers a couple options and one is closer to base level that would be awesome for those wanting that. I don’t want a $90K launch vehicle but I do want a fairly loaded model so time will tell

It is worth pointing out that Tax Foundation isn’t widely considered unbiased.

That said, total costs for the inflation reduction act (which included a big chunk of money to the Affordable Care Act) over ten years estimated by multiple sources varied from $320 billion to 1 trillion. Those figures assumed no caps on spending (unlikely) and that the IRA would make it ten years with no changes or reversals by new administrations.

Sadly it isn’t easy getting to factual information these days. EV tax credits were a much smaller amount overall than oil and gas subsidies.

I didn’t respond to this when you first posted because I wasn’t sure what the implications might be. I’m still not fully sure, but didn’t want to lose this thread because this is a fascinating approach.

My first concern is thermal management. How do you manage the thermal conditions of a bunch of battery modules that are spatially distributed from each other? It’s not an impossible problem to solve, but it’s still an engineering problem.

My second concern is about physical safety of the modules. They still need to be protected during a crash, so everywhere the modules are located must have a crash cage around them (while also still not located within the passenger cabin).

Neither of these are impossible problems to solve, but they do require additional engineering over a single battery pack located between the frame rails.

I applaud Porsche for trying something new. I hope it works.
