  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Not a good start if true

I've seem multiple articles on this with the CEO even saying they will switch production to EREV to meet demand. This is sad. I live in a cold weather locations and I wanted the BEV for the NMC batteries. I guess buying a Scout may off the table. I was so excited about this purchase but I will not be buying an EREV for multiple reasons.

I'm in the same boat. I won't be buying an EREV so if there's no EV version then I won't be buying anything.

The various articles about whether the EREV will be built first or not are an echo chamber of a single rumor. I wouldn’t put too much faith in that echo chamber until there’s an official statement from Scout Motors about ordering, production, and timing of deliveries.

I have zero interest in a fossil fuel vehicle, so I also would lose all interest in the Scouts if they went so far as to drop the BEV. But I’m not at all convinced that’s going to happen.

Jamie has also noted that those articles are mainly AI generated and the BEV has months lead time on the EREV. I just don’t buy it. Still believing BEV will roll first to get up to production speed til final EREV is tested and approved then I’m guessing top focus will be EREV

I agree. Honestly if I have to wait a given period of time due to EREV there are other sporty alternatives I’d prefer as a hybrid but hey-faith and patience

Welcome to the community. I have switched from EREV to BEV and that’s my plan now. A good follow is @Jamie@ScoutMotors he responded to all those posts about what would come first, etc stating that it’s still speculation at this point. There has been nothing from SM stating the won’t be making the BEV. It’s just a matter of what is built first and that we don’t know yet. Welcome again!

Faith and patience!
well I think that is where Scout dropped the ball, dont know about other companies bringing their products to market, but seems like Scout jumped the gun and we are all here bullshitting about what may happen....I think they will lose many sales this way, but I hope to hang in for another 2 yrs, but if I dont see much concrete info released I will probably go elsewhere and just ride my 1978 SSII all the way home....

Everyone has to make their own calculation as to what works for them. They were very upfront at release that this was a 3 year lead up to production. However, I have never seen a car company have a forum like this where the manufacturer is communicating with us and asking our opinion on things. I for one am fine with the wait (gives me time to scream PBY over and over again). My understanding of this whole adventure is that SM wanted the Scout community to have input and boy and how are we giving our input!

They are communicating with us and providing us the information they can. If someone doesn’t have the ability to wait and has to buy a vehicle prior to their Scout becoming available then that’s what they have to do.

I hope you can stay, but understand if you can’t. I, along with many others I would suspect, will be here for the duration and yes I have faith and patience.

We’ve all known the production date was 2027 so if two years is too long jump off for a bit and just check in. The whole point of the forum is to build a community not treat it as a countdown clock/stop watch. I’ve been here since Nov of ‘22 and have learned a ton. Most of it not about specs but about EV culture and science along with just learning the different reasons people want scouts-is it personal history with IH Scouts like me, EV fanatics, people wanting US built vehicle, or just social stars on the internet finding a home to talk about cars/trucks in general. But just my POV

I see both sides of this. I do agree I greatly appreciate the feedback they accept from the community as many others do not do that (we will see how long it lasts). I however do agree they “dropped the ball”. They do not have luxury of over promising or “jumping the gun” like companies such as Tesla. The bottom line is it’s a black eye and not good when you start back peddling out the gate when the product has not even hit the floor or start using cost cutting measures to reduce towing numbers for example by using less expensive batteries. These were openly announcements ( the least expensive battery component). It’s not good and leads people down the dark path of Fisker, Lordstown truck etc……I know it’s my opinion but look at the trend. Not good. We will wait and see but I am cautiously optimistic and believe everyone else should, but again just my opinion.

As a side note, from what I understand from everyone’s educated input the towing isn’t a matter in inferior batteries but the reaction of towing tongue weight and loads on the vehicle, not the battery units. and when not 100% engineered out, easier for Scott to state a number that is lower and an approach to under promise and over deliver-good, bad or indifferent

I also wonder if SM truly sees this more like a bridge between something like a Honda Ridgeline and a Ford F-150. More of a gentleman’s truck in EREV and if you want higher towing commit to the full BEV. But truck and towing aren’t my reasons for buying so I have no skin in the game

Same and I couldn’t answer a question about towing so I just stay out of it.

Timelines:
Rivian revealed the R1T and R1S in December 2017. They delivered the first ones in October 2021. (46 months)
Scout revealed the Terra and Traveler in October 2024. Adding 46 months to that gets us to August 2028. Scout is on track for that timeframe, and likely will deliver before August 2028.
Rivian had to build its factory, spin up a company, and do all the same sort of things Scout has to do.

Ford revealed the Lightning in May 2021 and delivered its first trucks in April 2022, 11 months. BUT Ford used an existing platform, didn’t have to build a new factory, and had an objectively successful business already running.

[EDITED to clarify: Ford announced the intention to build a BEV pickup in 2019, but their reveal was in 2021; this is similar to Rivian and Scout’s history as well.]
