I'd also just like to say that no matter how good your manufacturer developed navigation is, Waze is probably better.

We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. If Waze had building outlines it could be almost perfect, Google and Apple allow to count the houses before the address your looking for, it’s not always necessary, but sometimes you go to places that don’t have the addresses on the outside of the house for whatever reason or no mailbox or it’s tucked off way behind some trees and it’s hard to spot
I agree with you 100%.
That being said, the dozen other user-inputted "real time" notifications it provides are worth their weight in gold!
I don't disagree; I've found it's possible to run Google Maps on the cluster screen with Waze open on the infotainment in the Blazer, but the car isn't a big fan of doing it
That's how our Volvo was until last year when they finally added the Waze integration over to the cluster. It only shows the "notifications" on the infotainment, but it will add the blue pulse/icon on the road when something's coming up on the cluster which is super helpful.
Watch out for the cop/roadkill/disabled vehicle!
I haven't tried Waze since I really don't use navigation, but I did like the real-time cop/disabled vehicle/construction notifications in Google via AA on the rental Camry we had earlier this year.
You should try it out! Waze will (usually) give those notifications even if you aren't actively using the Nav and just have the map up. And if you spot something you can just press 2 buttons to report it or use your voice.

Ideally, I'd love a navigation app with a rain/radar overlay. Anyone have anything decent with that functionality?
This isn't 100% what you're looking for, but with CarPlay (and I'd assume AA) Carrot will pull up the radar for you in-app.
We used it on our most recent road trip since we were skirting around some pretty wild thunderstorms and were trying to figure out if/when it made sense to make a pit stop to either avoid or wait out the rain.
I just did a quick search and it looks like it might actually integrate with nav on carplay? (Maybe Maps, but I don't use that). Might be worth a go. (not my picture, just from search)

For some. It's a rolling update, but as of last week, when I last used it in AA before the Blazer, I did not have access to that update
