Or I just buy from a different manufacturer. I’m not a loyalist. Never have been, never will be. A brand needs to earn my cash. And a too-wide SUV has to be a winner in every other category to earn it, if it even does. I don’t owe any company my patience. I may choose to have patience for my personal reasons, but Scout knew on the day of the reveal that people were concerned about the width of the Traveler.
I also care a lot less about styling than function. So if we have the money when a competitor comes out with an affordable, 70-75-inch wide, off-road capable SUV BEV, and it meets our other requirements, we’ll probably buy it, almost regardless of the brand, and almost regardless of the looks.
An R2 purchase is possible, but its UX is my biggest concern. There’s not much else out there that’s even close.
We’ll wait because there’s nothing that meets the need, but I’m not holding my breath for Scout in particular. If they release something before we’ve purchased our next vehicle, great; if not, then oh, well.
To be sure, I don’t think my use-case is everybody’s, nor maybe even anybody else’s.I'd hope their theoretical future smaller SUV would be narrower. I don't wheel really anymore, but slot canyons are difficult on anything full size, as you're just sooooo wide.
I also presume the Traveler/Tera share the C pillar forward, for simple cost reasons. But for the Traveler, it does have the potential to give it a huge interior for its length, which is could also be helpful for others (honestly part of the reason the bench seat is sort of appealing, as its full size truck width), but I can see how that would also be a turnoff for anyone looking for an "actual trail" offroader.
My use case is closer to "trailhead offroading" these days, so the width isn't as big of a deal for me, but I totally get it.
I get the idea, and request, however I hate the charge port door on my car and the SilveradoEV you have to push it in for the popper to open then you can grab the door and open it, then you have to press it back in to close the popper, I wanna push it and it just open then close fully when I push it toAs a side note, can we get away from the trend of "lets motorize the charger cover door"?
I know someone with one of those.I think Icon will as well. They have done a few electric converted restomods, though the electric conversion isn't listed.
They are a top notch outfit.
They tried to recruit me as a project manager some years ago, but my ex wife didnt want to relocate to California.
Probably one of my biggest life regrets was turning them down.

Concept vehicles are normally larger than production. They have to be able to fit in a parking spot. And At least make it into a garage of some sort. The dimensions Scout gave us could be based off the concepts and not the actual product models. Time will tell.I am of the same opinion. The Scouts are too wide. Scout, please hear us! It is too wide!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve already been thinking which car will go next to the Scout. Luckily we have a 3 car garage so I can play car jenga to make them all fit.Yeah I'm worried about garage fit alongside wife's Grand Highlander Hybrid. I might be leaving my reservation deposit in place for some years waiting for a leaner Scout BEV. We'll see.

I was worried too but measured my Wrangler at its widest piont, which is the tires since I’m running a -12 offset. The Traveler is only 1.5 inches wider. Now it’s 18.5 inches longer with the tire carrier, but I’m really not worried about the length. With all this talk of being too wide you all had me freaking out. But I looked and near as I can tell the Traveler will only be 1" wider and 9" longer than my MXP. That's doable for me.
Same here. I already drive a wide vehicle that does Fit in parking spaces very well. Along with taking it on trails. It’s not horrible it’s just not very optimized. With all this talk of being too wide you all had me freaking out. A 3-car garage would be nice. Presently I have all my ‘man’ tools in the 2nd bay.I’ve already been thinking which car will go next to the Scout. Luckily we have a 3 car garage so I can play car jenga to make them all fit.
I assumed Scout’s concept vehicles were decided as to size, maybe not. I wouldn’t mind something a little narrower.Concept vehicles are normally larger than production. Don’t forget the doors. The Traveler will almost certainly have longer doors, which means they won’t be able to open as wide as the Wrangler’s doors. So, the Traveler’s tires will be 1.5 inches closer to whatever, but its doors are closer to the tires and its doors are longer. The Traveler’s door angle will be much shallower in a tight fit than the Wrangler's. From your photos, it doesn’t look like you’ll have an issue slipping through, but what about stuff you’re trying to load into the cabin?I was worried too but measured my Wrangler at its widest piont, which is the tires since I’m running a -12 offset. This is the first time we have ever had one and then with the basement I don’t have much in the garage. I love it.A 3-car garage would be nice. Presently I have all my ‘man’ tools in the 2nd bay.
I’m not basing width on looks, I’m basing it on the dimensions they provide on their site. Those are as close to certain as anything else.I assumed Scout’s concept vehicles were decided as to size, maybe not. I wouldn’t mind something a little narrower.
The way the garage is there’s a two door, some space and then a single door. My plan at the moment is to park it where the Jeep is now. So on the passenger side there’s quite a few feet. The passenger side you will be able to load stuff in and out easily. I do that now with the Jeep if I’m putting a bunch of stuff in and out.Don’t forget the doors. But I agree with you it will be tighter walking around it because the whole vehicle is that size, not just the tires.I’m not basing width on looks, I’m basing it on the dimensions they provide on their site. Those are as close to certain as anything else.
The other thing I know I won’t be able to do is unload stuff out of the back in the garage. Right now I have just enough space to pull in, shut the garage door and I can open the tail gate on the jeep all the way with like 2 or 3 inches to spare. So I can have the door shut when I bring groceries and things in.The way the garage is there’s a two door, some space and then a single door.
