The Scout Times

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Tennessee denies Scout Motors direct sales dealer license application
So will SM keep trying since this is a commission and not a court of law or is it essentially the same thing. What a bunch of BS

This is such garbage. Just utter garbage. "According to the [Tennessee Motor Vehicle] commission, multiple Volkswagen dealers in Tennessee oppose Scout selling its vehicles in the state because they contend Volkswagen owns the company, which already sells its vehicles there." So let me get this straight. OEM dealers are mad that they're going to have competition in their state. Their complaints based on unsupported conclusions. Yet you side with them? It's pretty obvious here who butters the commission's bread.

@Jamie@ScoutMotors I was interested in possibly working for Scout. I love my current job, and don't want to leave, but I believe in Scout so much it had a draw. Alas, I missed out on your legal hiring. I've been defending lawsuits for 22 years and also advising human resources. Prefer the HR work, but I like the fight of litigation. Currently in-house doing both. I'll be happy to come to work for Scout and crack some skulls! My family and I will happily move to Charlotte where the weather is much nicer in the winter!
I appreciate your legal analysis on the hub. Thank you.

I would say, keep your eyes on our hiring as we are still very much ramping up.

Sounds ominous-I love it! Just wish you didn’t have to deal with all of it. It’s a shame when payoffs supersede common sense
I agree 100%. Political fallout shouldn't supersede whether you're entitled to the license or not. Just because some competitors are whining doesn't mean SM isn't entitled to a license.

To your earlier question though @J Alynn, normally commissions like these are what we call "administrative bodies." Normally there's an appeal process for decisions coming from "administrative bodies." Sometimes the next step is the head of that body. If that appeal is denied, then it typically goes to normal court and then you fight with the State about whether SM is entitled to a license in TN or not. The exact process will depend on TN law. I'm not licensed there so I can't speak to it, but the process I outlined is pretty typical from state to state. My only concern would be with what we call a "standard of review," that is, what deference the actual court pays to the commission's decision. What Scout wants is another bite at the apple. A court to look at the issue without paying any mind to what the commission said. If this happened in MN, I think I could make a good argument that the actual court court ignore the commission. I'm sure if there's button to press under TN, Scout will press it.

Sounds like Scout will be needing more lawyers soon, in a variety of states, so you might be in luck!

Surely they can loophole this like Tesla does with the Showroom only locations. If you've never experienced one of these locations they're a lot of fun. The people can talk to you about the vehicles, show you the vehicles, you can even test drive vehicles, and then they can show you the website where YOU can go to and place an order for a car if you want one. They can't talk any numbers at all or do any of the website input for you, they cant even hold the tablet for you, but they can walk you through every step of the process to order/buy a car and as long as it's done solely by the customer they wont get in any trouble. One of Tesla's smoothest moves lol

Gotta love creative loop hole finding. My daughter EXCELS in that field-we tried to push her into corporate auditing because if there is a loophole to be found, she does it. It’s her super power-doesn’t matter topic or context. Wish my brain worked that way

I LOVE loopholes!! I have fun with all the local inspection departments, and then going over their heads to get them overruled by the state's Department of Insurance that regulates our codes. 100% success rate over 25+ years!

I'd have made a great lawyer criminal if it weren't for these darn morals... :ROFLMAO:

Winning arguments against inspectors is a fabulous pleasure

I wish I would’ve had a few of those wins in the past!
I had a foreman get called out once on a final inspection for a C/O because a second floor window was a 1/4” lower than permitted due to fall protection. Framer just was off a bit. He was failed. Before he left foreman said I want to reschedule for tomorrow-inspector said you working all night to reframe it-he said when can you come back-inspector being a smart ass said I’ll be here at 8 but if you aren’t ready I’m billing you for the trip-Agreed. Inspector showed up-walked the house and said to the foreman-there’s no carpet in the room-is that all the further you got-foreman said Yup-but since you are here might as well measure it. Without the carpet and pad the dimension extended and he passed. He proceeded to argue with foreman who then pulled out the code book from behind the bedroom door and said-show me where it says I need carpet installed to pass a final inspection. He passed him and as he walked out the carpet guys were walking in with new carpet padding. That was the best one I ever heard and working with the foreman I know exactly how it all went down-sarcasm and all.

The game is much more fun when you know the book you’ve armed yourself with. Especially if you know it better. My first job was an architecture firm and one of our construction managers (early 60’s) kept a set of 12 law books at his desk. He had post-its all through it and if you were a trade on site making threats you’d had best known more than him because he’d dress you down one side and back up the other. The man looked like Santa Claus but had teeth like a shark-I learned A LOT from him early in my career-and he made sure I learned it the right way

That was quick thinking on his part!
