Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
And they get the kids. We co-signed for the kids first cars because they were getting quotes of 18 to 20% interest!
We are financing my daughters and she pays us monthly. Occasionally my wife will say-if you pay next months by end of first week I’ll take $50 off or other incentives. Sometimes she does and once she told my wife the stock market was up so she was adding money into that instead. Thank god my wife is good at finances and taught my daughter well

One son already refinanced his on his own and he has kept his credit so high he got a better rate. I’m glad we can help them get on the right foot.

For as out of touch as dealers are, the manufacturers are just as out of it. A quote from a GMC Sierra EV team lead when asked if they were selling to a younger or older audience primarily. “We’re mainly selling to people that can afford our trucks, and younger people that can afford them” while talking about a MSRP of $100k+ most people can’t afford that, especially younger people. So many people go upside down just for status, and young people don’t know enough, that why so many hellcats had multiple repossessions.

My father was a finance manager for a Fortune 500 company. I learned what amortization tables were over the dinner table when I was 8yrs old.

It was boring at the time, but I really value that education now. Not that I am an expert of course, but I know enough to realize how interest rates work.

The lack of financial education in most schools is kind of crazy if you ask me.

Last year the youth group I work with asked for a lesson about "money?" (with the question mark there :D), as many of them were starting to leave for college. It was "boring" for them, until I told them the impact of the things I was talking about. When I told them that I saved myself literal hundreds of thousands of dollars by refinancing my house (when they dropped into the 2’s during Covid) that got their attention. So did explaining how much they could pay on interest for a car.

Not sure if this has already been shared but looks like there been a decision on prioritization made. I’ve always been team EV but now wondering how much extra time I’ll have to wait for that. While committing to a target of 2028 for EREV, there’s not even a bother to mention if the EV model will happen in the year…

Well boo. I just hope there’s not too much time between the EREV and the BEV being released.

Same for me. I remember my dad showing me compounding interest and it blew my mind. Always been frugal. Then years ago my wife explained your invested money typically doubles every 7-8 years if you can manage (give or take) a 10% annual return rate and that really opened my eyes. That one made me want to save even more.
My wife shops electricity rates every quarter and other efforts so save every dime we can.

Agree. Feeling like BEV is just getting kicked down the road
My issue is my sweet husband could care less BEV or EREV and keeps saying if you have the opportunity to go sooner rather than later just get whichever one is available. I know something has to be first and we aren’t even acknowledge all those Terra people who have to wait for the Traveler to go first. I know it’s not realistic at all but I wish they could make all 4 at the same time, but sadly they can’t.

Here’s a question. Let’s say they have a “launch” edition like lots of brands do. Do they just have one with whatever is first? Or 4 one for each iteration?

I have ZERO knowledge of car manufacturing, but I guess I always assumed there'd be 2 lines - one Traveler & one Terra - that would switch out production of BEV & EREV per model based on reservation demand.

Based on the 85% number in the screenshot, the poll thread might actually be a representative of the overall reservations (which seems wild to me). So even if you do like 3 days of EREV then 1 day of BEV at least you're not delaying a group of buyers completely. And obviously that doesn't take into account the difference in Traveler vs Terra reservations, but I assume changing a line to a different model would be more intense than changing it for a different configuration of a model.

Again, no knowledge of manufacturing, so this could be a very dumb post - and I can accept that. Hahaha

We all want Scout to be successful and I think it makes sense to run the production line as simply as possible initially until everybody knows what they're doing and quality control is within acceptable parameters. It makes sense to me to produce the model with the most demand first so money can start rolling in with as little disruption to the line as possible. Once everybody is comfortable and kinks are worked out, you can start adding additional variables to the equation. Sucks for non-EREV Traveler preorders, but the KISS methodology definitely applies when running a line for the first time.

$40k underwater! This is one thing I have made sure to instill in my kids. Don’t ever, ever do this. It’s never good.
Amen. One of my biggest concerns with buying a vehicle is resale value, otherwise you're just throwing money away. Scout is a BIG gamble for me, not knowing how that will turn out. Hopefully they build a simple, reliable vehicle that will end up in the realm of the 4Runner or Wrangler for resale value.

The key here is if they can legally say that Scout=VW.

The size of this key is so large it requires a fleet of pallbearers to carry.

There's a reason why Scout has very specifically not leveraged the "VW muscle" or "VW supply chain" or alluded to any cross pollination. They are operating as a very separate entity specifically so they can't get ensnared in a losing legal battle with the dealer snakes.
