Still here. Not done.Sixteen foot walls and ceiling sound great. Until you have to use a telescoping ladder to install a gantry crane... If I don't die, photos after it's done.

Do you do Cirque du Soleil on the weekends. It’s not complete and won’t be until this evening at the earliest.
I bought a Vevor 1-ton overhead winch. It came with lazy mounting brackets that don’t fit anything useful.
I replaced those with three 1000 pound superstrut trolleys and a superstrut channel.
I also replaced the wire rope with a synthetic winch rope. That reduced the static load by about 50 pounds. It’s still a heavy beast.
Still to do:

- Finish attaching mounting the superstrut channel
- Add stops on each end of the superstrut so the winch cannot roll off
- Add support bracing so the single roof truss isn’t carrying all of the load
- Add a backup emergency catch strap in case everything else fails and the winch falls
- Add an auto retracting hanger for the controls
- Set up a remote
I am so unflexible that it’s scary. Even so, I was hanging upside down with my legs wrapped around the trusses while running the bolts to mount the rail. There were a couple of times I’d wished I thought to use my climbing harness and safety equipment. I will likely go grab that before going back up.Do you do Cirque du Soleil on the weekends.
Seriously. Glad to still have you around after your death defying climb.
Yes. A climbing harness would be a wise choice. Be safe.I am so unflexible that it’s scary. It gets up to about 120 ºF in the “attic” so I have to wait until the evening when it’s cooled down. Also I have paid work to do during the day.
My supplier said steel beams just jumped 5% last weekend. Good timesNo work done on the winch/crane today. I mentioned it to someone else and they asked how I was going to support the weight I planned on pulling. I checked my notes... Turns out I’d done a bunch of the engineering a year ago before I set this particular project aside. And… I’d determined that I need an I-Beam installed, which is why I had set aside this project—getting one shipped was going to be expensive and it wasn’t a high priority at the time. Now that I do want this done, I’m not even seeing i-beams available to ship. Most sources seem to be out of stock. Sigh. Will need to set this aside again and make sure I put a note somewhere to remind myself there’s a reason it’s been postponed.
I was looking at the companies I almost bought from last year. The shipping then was going to be higher than the price of the I-beam (problem with being a small fish in a big ocean), and I just wasn’t ready to spend that much. Now I can’t even find them in stock and the listed prices are about 30% higher than I would have had to pay a year ago. I’d bet shipping has gone up too.My supplier said steel beams just jumped 5% last weekend. Good times![]()
30% is about right.I was looking at the companies I almost bought from last year. It’s going to be cheaper to buy a cheap gantry crane from Harbor Freight than to complete this.
Holy smokes!Holy cow, the power of the lever arm!
Bought a 2-ton crane/mobile gantry today. Put it together by myself even though it says to get help. I’m an idiot like that.
This sucker weighs about 700 pounds. And a LOT of the weight is on the two long, vertical arms and the top I-beam. You build it while it’s laying down. It’s about 96” tall when standing up. Getting it to stand up was an exercise in understanding and manipulating torque. There was no way I was going to be able to stand it up on my own, even if it didn’t have the 6-foot cross feet with casters. I ended up having to use my tractor to get it stood up, but of course, my tractor doesn’t lift high enough so I had to trick the gantry into lifting itself beyond a certain point. Fun times. Now back to paid work and I’ll finish putting it together later this evening.

Thanks.Holy smokes!
Hopefully you didn’t gain an extra hemorrhoid on this one.
Great work![]()
Thanks.
No permanent damage to the flesh bag was done.
I do still have to drop that winch down off the trusses 16-feet up in the air. I’ll leave that for a later date.

I will be selling prints of these original works.
All proceeds will go towards heroine and Spanish Jamón.
I may be Euro-trash, but I still enjoy the finer things in life.
