I second that!Hoping that Scout Motors will provide excellent field service and technical manuals for the new vehicles. Agree?
I don't mind PDF releases for things, however like you, I very much would appreciate a hard copy version available for purchase (even if I had to spend $50-60 for it). While I doubt that the electronic drivetrain components would be repairable by owners, this is an off-road designed car. Which means potentially going into areas where cell coverage isn't available to download PDFs.Printed, please. It is annoying to be told to go download the manual for a thing as a PDF in lieu of a physical copy. Some people think it's helpful to have the manual built into their device, and I agree, but I still want a hard copy as a backup. Maybe I also want a PDF that I can read on my iPad so I can see it in the dark easily, but for a car, I'd want redundancies. Some of that is me speaking as a person who was paid for my InDesign expertise and hated seeing my favorite printers go out of business, some of that is because I actually prefer to have a physical book in my hand when I'm freaking out about problems. A tabbed and indexed book (perhaps even one that is wire-bound) that I can lay flat on my pull-out table would be lovely.
That I am all for!I would like both. Accessible from the cars infotainment screen and an actual book from the manufacturer. I would like to be able to sit on my couch and read it. At minimum, a PDF so I can print it. Also it would be nice to have a “quick start guide” so to speak for those of us coming from older ICE vehicles
Have to agree. Something’s-like connecting roaming code garage door openers can be annoying to set up and having a manual for on the ladder in the garage pressing motor buttons while spouse is in the car doing those commands makes it perfect having both methodsI would like both. Ineos has a pdf manual on their website you can download. I printed it at home and had it bound at Office Depot for $6. I printed it when I was considering that car. I would love to have a pdf of the manual prior to getting my delivery of my Scout so I have an idea of how things work before I get in it for the first time.I remembered reading somewhere about Amazon offering a printing service for small run books. A quick Google search turned up the official name: Kindle Direct Publishing. With this service, authors can provide a book for publication and Amazon handles the printing, binding, sales and delivery.
I can't judge how expensive it is compared to other options, and I am not suggesting that service specifically. I just wanted to point out that if Scout Motors wants to make the manual available for a reasonable cost without having to do it themselves, services are available.
That’s a great win-win approach and it merely a single file. Though I guess as OTA updates occur how do you address those changes. Guess just drop them on as a dated supplemental PDF file?Ineos has a pdf manual on their website you can download. I printed it at home and had it bound at Office Depot for $6. Definitely agree with both. And the version on the infotainment system should be more interactive where there can be pre-programmed list of common faults that then set by step tell you the ways to complete the diag/fix. The manual for my Lincoln is in the infotainment system. I used it once. It is handy.Definitely agree with both. Wow. A lot of great information. ThanksThe only time I have ever needed to print anything from the online owners manual (also available via the infotainment screen, which is great) was when I wanted to give my local tire shop instructions on accessing maintenance mode and changing a tire, and that was just in case they ran into any problems since the truck was brand new back in '22.
So far, everytime I have needed to search the owner's manual to find or do something, I think I have been seated in the drivers seat. I would be pretty shocked if Scout didn't do what other manufacturers like Rivian are now doing and make them online, in the infotainment screen and available via PDF. Printing them seems wasteful. I would bet 95% of the pages would never be touched by the majority of owners.
Also, with SW updates, these manuals are dynamic and not static for some features or controls, and the ability to SEARCH is great too.
