Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

First offroad trip with the Bronco, opened the drivers door directly into the point of a dead tree branch. Crazy how it actually made me relax knowing I had the first one out of the way.
My philosophy has been, “it’s going to happen and I have minimal control over that. If I make sure it happens on my terms, I can stop worrying.”

I haven’t been worried about the Lightning, but it’s also the most expensive vehicle I’ve ever owned, so it’s been difficult for me to choose to scratch it.

:ROFLMAO: Right?!? Keep in mind this is a VERY mass-produced and not-the-largest vehicle example. Any larger vehicle or with smaller production numbers and yeah who knows how high the price would be for a set for Traveler/Terra especially in the beginning (IF they even decide to make them). These are pricey mothers.

Yep, it’s a thing. Here’s an example:

Apparently MEK has a vinyl that sticks to aluminum panels (Bronco). They use some techno-babble “quantum” or “nano” or whatever; it’s just a reusable gel glue that’s been in use on all kinds of sticky pads for a few decades. If it gets too dirty it’s going to be difficult to wash clean and reuse, but it’ll probably work well for a few dozen uses.

We use touchless to rinse dust off our vehicles every three to six months, but otherwise I do a deeper clean no more than once a year.
 
I am very, very happy with the Lightning (except its size). If any brand released a 2015 Tacoma-sized or Gen3 4Runner-sized BEV pickup/SUV with ~320 miles range and for a reasonable price, we would probably find a way to trade the Lightning or the Mustang for it. I don’t need the 10k towing nor the cavernous cabin of the Lightning. I need a truck to haul loads, tow trailers, and run power tools on the ranch. We are very happy with the Mustang, but we got bit by the overlanding bug again now that we’re empty nesting, and a Gen3 4Runner-sized BEV SUV would be nearly perfect.
The Subaru Solterra and Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT are pretty close dimensionally.

The new 4Runners are much wider. I didn’t realize that.

Yeah. it’s wild to me that today’s relatively small crossover SUV is the same size as a relatively recent generation’s medium-sized SUV.

I added the top-end BEV range estimates to that table, as well as our Mustang’s specs. If we were only using the vehicle for local/regional driving, 227 miles would be great (a friend has the Solterra and is mostly happy with it). But with our interest in both overlanding and off-road exploration of the southwest, our experience is that ~320 miles is the kind of minimum we are comfortable with. I can carry an auxiliary battery to give me the range I need to get to a charger after boondocking for a few days.

That said, the Ioniq 5 XRT might be an option to replace the Mustang when it’s time, if it’s still available. We’ll see. We still have 50k miles to add to the Mustang before we’re willing to start seriously shopping for its replacement.

I love those checker panels on the hood. You can get those on the Grenadier. I love the way that car looks. There were just too many cons.
 
A project I may end up taking on if I lose all of my contracts and end up involuntarily retired early…

Electrification of a 1985-ish Toyota FJ60. An electric FJ60 is my partner’s dream vehicle (preferably with updated safety systems).

The new Solterra is supposed to get 288 miles range. Still not great, but way better. But, I do think that will make a difference for a lot of buyers put off by the first gen.

The 2026, yeah. IMO, its range is pretty great, for most uses. I wish they had increased the charge speed substantially. The 2025- maximum charge speed was poorly considered at 100 kW. From their press materials, the 2026 is not going to charge much more rapidly. It’s a shame. They should be trying to hit 2C maximum charge rate at least. All EV manufacturers should be. We could solve a massive amount of charger congestion if manufacturers would just bump up their peak and their average charge speeds by 10-20%. And it wouldn’t impact battery lifetime enough to matter.
