How do you plan to kit out your interior?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Exactly why do we need a hair dryer and needle nose plyers?🤷‍♀️
The hair dryer is to melt ice from frozen charge port doors…would love if Scout engineers had a port defrost. Otherwise, hair dryer. Also, if it’s actively snowing I’ve had snow blow in and you don’t get good male side connection (insert jokes here as you wish!), and the hair dryer or a small brush can get said snow out…you won’t want to compact it in the port. There’s a pin in the receiving side that folks have bent (and actually broke off). If slightly bent the needle nose can straighten it out. I’ve not ever bent mine but I’m pretty careful to insert it straight in.

Thanks for the education. These are issues I wasn’t even aware I needed to think about.

You definitely won't need the Chademo adapter. That's a dead standard, there aren't many stations that support it, and the adapters are super expensive. You might want to include a CCS adapter though.

As for the NEMA adapters I expect the level 1/2 charger that comes with the vehicle will have those as part of that kit. Even still you probably only need the 14-50 as that's the most common one. Not sure what you'd use the pliers, brush and hair dryer for?
NEMA 14-50 and -30 are found at RV site posts. I’ve had the 50a not function (or not on the post at some parks) and used the 30, or the friend uses the 50 for their RV, and sometimes houses have the 30 rather than the 50 outside. My charger at work is a 14-30. Generally, RV posts are my Plan B. Electric dryer plugs in general are a great electrical source. Welding plugs are my Plan C. Old houses sometimes still have the three prong 10-30 dryer plugs. I have used Chademo on a couple of remote drives, only a couple of times, but was happy to have it. Happily I have my assorted adapters already.

I’m a pessimist by nature and want options…but, over the years, I’ve used all of them. J1772 is very common at hotels and parking garages. Some hotels will have two chargers, a J1772 and a NACS. If NACS is taken I’ll use the J1772.

Minimalist...

No real clutter, nothing attached to windshield or vents.

No obstructions line of sight.

Everything I need (tools, adapters, gear) fits in a small storage place or compartment in the truck.

Plus co-pilot for dump runs

It usually happens somewhat organically. I expect I will car camp/overland. Will probably build a platform in the to the extent the roof height allows (and I can still get in a pair of dog kennels). Will rig up the platform to fold forward to make a sleeping platform (odds are a folding mattress will live under it, plus some storage boxes (kayak stuff). Probably will hide an aluminum floor jack in there somewhere - possible a higher capacity compressor if necessary). Usually an IFAK gets a home where it is easily accessible. Eventually, probably will build various kits that are vehicle specific. Tool Kit, wench kit, etc...

Not really the interior - but will set it up to roof carry kayaks. Set it up to tow a semi-light trailer (3-5k lbs).

I'm not sure you really need to worry about any of these issues. I've been living with EVs here in the Great White North for almost a decade now and if the charge port door is frozen shut you just give it a bit of a whack and it opens right up. No need to futz around with a hair dryer, it's a car, it's not made of crystal. If a bit of snow blows into the charging area you just blow it out with your mouth or brush it out with your glove, and the pins should all be shrouded so you shouldn't ever have to straighten one out with pliers. (You're more likely to snap it off if anything!) I've never heard of anyone having to unbend a charging pin by hand. And since the Scouts will have NACS there's basically no way to insert the connector into the port wrong enough to even remotely bend a pin so again, this is a non-issue.

Thanks! I’m still learning that’s for sure! I appreciate all the input I get here.

Speaking about NACS-assuming for a home charger you don’t have to buy a Tesla charger? Assuming SM will have a cool option like at the reveal that looks boss hanging on the garage wall I assuming there are brands to choose from for a “generic” home charger?

There are quite a few now that have NACS options. Check out “state of charge” YouTube channel for more info than you ever thought you’d want on the subject :)

I was talking about NACS. While I’ve never bent or broken mine it does have a delicate little pin on the car side that folks have bent and broken… I guess I’m not a whack the charger port door kind of gal, lol, I’d worry about the charge port motor getting damaged constantly trying to open a frozen door after whacks.
