[Terra] Double cab with a 6.5' bed

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Would love to have an option for a slightly longer (6.5') bed with a slightly shorter (double) cab.

We don't need a lounge in the back seat. When they are occupied, they would mostly be occupied by kids. So a double cab would be a perfect fit.

On the other hand, having a slightly longer bed would be a big advantage for a camper shell build.

This could be accommodated easily since the wheelbase and length of a double cab w/ 6.5' bed would be the same as the crew cab w/ 5.5' bed.

30% of sales needing 60% or more unique tools.

While you're burning cash and not making any. They haven't kicked off, or even sourced, alot of the suppliers, there's still time.

If I were trying to get a product to market, while maintaining a healthy financial status, I'd push the Terra, and push the BEV Traveller.

18 months post launch I'd put out the BEV traveler and 36 I'd bring in the Terra in both flavors.

I would focus 100% of my effort, energy, and capital on the 60% of sales I definitely have interest for. And allow tech to catch up and costs to come down.

Which sucks for me, I ordered a BEV Terra lol.

I agree we need one with 6.5' bed. I'm a contractor and use my pickup bed almost every day and 5.5' just doesn't cut it for what I need to carry. I drive over 30k a year and an EV would make a lot of sense from a cost saving perspective for my business as well as a good marketing tactic towards the more environmentally conscious clients I sometimes work with.

Nobody is making an EV pickup with a 6.5'. Chevy and GMC have their beds at 5.9 so those are close to doable. If Scout were to make one with the 6.5 and a largely corner of the market for contractors like myself.

I also agree, eventually. Maybe in the second set of models, along with a plain-Jane adaptable version like Bezos and his shop are offering. One built upon the simplistic utilitarian concept of a '63-'65 Scout 80.

@TheDuck I was in a Toyota salesroom last week and they were delivering a brand new Tundra with a full 8-foot bed. My salesman friend said it was the rarest bird he's ever seen. The bed on my '23 Tundra is very close to 5-9. Foreign company, but the Tundra is built in Austin, TX.

Doing some spring garage stuff today . . . so nice to just toss a 6' ladder in the back of my useful older, longer pickup bed.

Shame no one builds pickup for real pickup truck use these days . . . . just Carryalls with the rear roof cut off.

While nobody builds EV trucks with 6.5' beds, I think there are gas ones available as special order (never seen one in a dealership). That said, going to 3/4 ton almost always gets you a longer bed. Likewise, extend cabs (vs crew cabs) are virtually extinct. They exist as special orders, and I think the Tacoma (but honestly it is probably special order as well-I happen to own one). Very functional, but kind of a niche market. But given the option as a second truck-I would choose a 6.5' bed extend cab as well (and have probably mentioned it pages ago in this thread).

In fairness, I have owned both a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton Fords. The 1/2 ton was before they switched from a common body with the 3/4 ton. I drove the 1/2 ton plenty in city driving. I really do avoid driving the 3/4 ton in the city-and would dread being forced into parking garages with it (I had to be careful with the smaller 1/2 ton - hell I feel claustrophobic even with my wife's Unlimited Jeep in some garages). That said, the 3/4 ton fits my current needs much, much better - can not imagine being forced to live with only the 1/2 ton anymore. I don't drive in the city much anymore, but do tow considerably more often and heavier. The 1/2 ton probably could tow 10k lbs, but it struggled with only 6k. The towing mirrors are a Godsend on the 3/4 ton, and I can forget the 6k lb trailer is behind me. I feel the 18k lb trailer, but it can handle that as well.
